Need 240d engine 1974-76 w115

Man, I was afraid of that. I am having a heck of a time finding one near my area. I have found quite a few 123 chassis engines but no early ones for my car. I wonder what it would cost to have a motor shipped???:confused:

Here is a pic. The car's odometer had 184,xxx miles on it, this motor is a factory replacement OM616.910 and the block is dated 1979. The car had been parked (due to bad brakes) for about 9 years when I bought it last summer. The wiring had rodent damage so I couldn't fire it up, it turns over by hand with nice sounding wooshes of air in the manifolds. $400 plus shipping from 29302 Spartanburg, SC.

Might be a great deal and a good engine but I cannot take the risk of spending the money and not knowing. My 240d engine now turns nicely and makes nice swooshing sounds too. In fact it starts right up and sounds pretty nice at idle. Yet the beast has a bad rod knock at higher rpm's. I want to find a replacement engine that I can hear run first and have decent compression or at least some type of guarantee that it is not a dud. Thanks for the offer though. I have a running engine which will be available if I can get the shop to convert the dang thing. It burns a lot of oil though and I am not sure if it's entirely compression related or if the valve seals are just shot....or both. So either way it would need to be rebuilt. Does yours run at all? The engine will be in Torrance, CA. Metric Motors offered $75 for it but you can just have it if it helps save another W115.

diametricalbenz - yes my engine does run it just has quite a little rod knock. It needs rebuilt. I was hoping to find an engine I could throw in and get me moving. I was hoping for one that does not burn tons of oil though. I don't mind an engine that burns a little or leaks a little though. If I was closer to you I would probably give that motor a shot. Does it run good enough to to be reliable? I really want to get this old 240d up and running. Thanks for your generosity. Chris

Chris, I replied to your PM. I think HitManX mentioned getting some Texas? OM616.916 engines. I am not sure if he still has access or leads on those.

Silverstar recycling in Sacramento might have an engine too. I think people have dealt with them in cash but they might be worth a shot. They're relatively close and might even be worth the drive. What sort of a price range are you looking at?
