WTB; Complete dual tone horn set-up from 126 car.

I'm looking for everything, Horns, wiring, and switch, any relays, and any other parts it consists of, for complete install.

I'd like to put a whole set-up into one of my old 123 coupes, and work as reliably as it would as if it were in the original 126 car..

Anyone know if the system is "Closed Loop"?

I hope it is, but I'd like to do the install for the hell of it, even if it doesn't really belong in that car.

Anyone got a set-up for sale...?

I have that, but I'll have to look where the wiring splits out of the harness. I assume you're going to use your original horn button on the steering wheel and splice into the wiring where it goes to the horn relay if the connectors don't match? If the connection from the horn button to the relay will connect to the W126 relay it would be best to use that and replace the realay and wiring from the relay to the horns. I have an '84 parts car with the front end intact.

its easy.. just get the horns and they should plug right in.. mounting will be a venture on your own. also get the relay and located the W123 relay or verify that they are the same

Right, but there's also a switch, that mounts in the center consol, on the 126 cars. I don't know how it's wired into the car, but I believe it will be run through the harnesses in the dash, and under the hood. As long as I get the switch, any relays, and the horns themselves, along with some sort of wiring schematic for it, I can come up with my own actual wires, if necessary. As long as what they are connected to, is wired, and functional, it's simple to run the wires themselves, and probably a lot easier for someone else to dismantle from another car, if the don't need to fish out wires from a sticky old wiring harness. Thanks so far guys. Hey Juergen, I'd like to get all of the parts your car has on it. I can probably make it work with all of the components as long as you snip off the wires with the ends plugged in, and enough slack to splice in some new wiring.

I have never seen a switch on the center console of a W126 for the horns. I currently have an '87 420SEL, an '83 380SEC an'84 300SD parts car and an '87 300SDL parts car. I have seen one or two with a switch in the glove box, but that was for the car alarm. I'll look at my W126 schematic and see if there is such an animal.

Should be up in front, under the ash tray, between the "Seat Heat" switches. I've also seen them on the left of the steering column, next to headlight switch, and even on the column itself in one case. Not sure which years they were placed in which locations however.

Thanks, Nick

I found what you are referring to. It is a switch that selects either fanfare or dual tone. It must be an option, because I have the '87 in my garage for maintenance and there is no switch anywhere and only two horns up front instead of four. I also don't have heated seats. I have saved a pdf file of the horn circuit, if you send me your e-mail I'll send it to you. It may have been more common on the 500/560's

I have switch somewhere in the garage, I pulled it from my 560SEC 2 years ago...

TheDon 08-12-2007 06:51 PM

its the dual horn set up.. available on the 560SEL IIRC...

I wanted the switch to use in my W123 for my dual horn set up
