I do know that very early (<80) cats have quite a bit of platinum and maybe palladium in them. Over the years, the mfr's have gotten more and more catalytic "surface area" out of less and less of these precious metals. I'll bet that the newest cats don't have 1/5 of what pre-80 cats had.

No kidding. I get about 4/5 for a whole cat pipe (2 units) off a 210 E320 then I did for the single cat on a 380SL.

I saw the news in phoenix, they said that theves target SUVs to cut out the cats because they are high enough off the ground. Sucks for the owner, 1k-2k for cats, for someone to get $50 bucks scrap.

I dont even think junk yards can sell used Cats because of EPA laws.
