1985 190D 2.2 5-spd for parts or repair
Sorry no pictures but I'll try to describe as accurately as possible. This is a two-owner car, I bought at an estate sale (prev. owner deceased) and got no documentation with car except title. High miles (565K) but I drove for a couple years and it drove great, honest 38-40 mpg on highway and about 32 mpg around town. Tan/brown color, some road rash but looks fine for daily driver, interior red and average or little better. Tranny & clutch work fine.
At about the same time two things happened, got a bad whine in rear diagnosed by indie as bad differential. Replaced differential and no cure. Turnes out to be bad right rear wheel bearing. I have two new bearings that go with car and the good differential that came out. I left the replacement in, it is O. K. but non ABS so the dash light stays on. The second thing was the A/C blower moter was pulling too may amps and burned out the relay (I think) because the A/C quit along with the tach. I don't have the time to repair and car has been sitting about 18 months. Tires are fair but has been sitting for 18 months. Sunroof, radio, etc was all working when parked. Can deliver for $2/mile for up to a couple hundred miles or you trailer it home. Price is $1200 including the spare parts Email @ <alparker@twlakes.net> |
Bump...lets try $950

Any rust? Got any pics? Thanks!
|
heck, you only need to put another 400k on it to roll the odometer.
That's a very impressive milage. -CTH |
Some very minor rust spots, nothing much really. The right rear quarter is a slightly different corlor shade indicating a fender bender somewhere in it's history but not very noticeable and no frame damage that i can see. Drives and tracks straight and true.
Red interior, looks like leather but may be MB-TEX, is good condition. Engine, clutch, tranny, and differential all good. I used the car as a daily driver until the rear wheel bearing acted up. Probably still driveable for a short distance but I wouldn't try it far because of the noisey bearing. Unfortunately no pics. Thanks Al |
Is there any rust-through or is it all surface?
Sent you a PM... thanks! |
Wish we were closer.

Rust is minor bubbles under paint around wheelwells.
frame and underside look good. Thanks Al |
still fs? You should figure out the pics man!
|
Oh, is there any oil leakage? Is it even for sale still?
|
The engine, clutch, tranny, and differential are all fine. I serviced the engine with Rotella 15-40 @ 5k intervals and it used maybe a quart between changes. No leaks of any fluids anywhere and no significant problems that I have not already described above.
Parts that go with the car are spare differential, 2 rear wheel bearings, 1 new hood pad, and I think a filter or two that I never used. This is a real deal for someone who has time to repair. Al |
I'm sorely tempted by your car, but I really need to get mine sold first. No interest in trading toward my Euro 300D, per chance?
|
you got a VIN?
|
Sorry, no interest in trades. Too many vehicles to try to keep road-worthy.
I'll get the vin and post it when I'm back home this weekend Al |
well while you were looking for that VIN i picked up an 84 2.2 190d AUTO in wisconsin. Its 040 black with an OXBLOOD interior. Your car is too far away for me to pick it up unless you considered a large price break. You should really just sell me the 5-speed kit for a couple hundred...
