300sdl Head

Good luck in finding one I have been looking for almost 2 years. The only thing I find is fixed or #14 heads. Duval motor cars has the best price at
$1500.00 for a new head.I will buy one in time but I do not need the car. Sometimes I think about selling just to get I out of my shop. Ross

Thumbs up

I have more than one, but all people think they're going to steal one for $350. Get real, the bare cast is $1700 alone for the No 22.

So what am I getting at? Open the check books or wait for a local deal at a parts yard that does not know what they have in stock.

I had my #14 rebuilt, and it has been fine for the last 2 years...

I was in the same boat. Needed a gasket, pulled the head, needed a head...

Found a highly recommended machine shop that is the only one I could find in So Cal. And for 950/complete had the head totally rebuilt and tested once completed. I have been very happy with it, and have total trust and faith in the work that they did.

I know the issues that people have with the #14 heads, but I could not find a good used one, for less than 1500 bucks, and rebuilt ones that we #17 and higher were going for over 2500 bucks. I asked a handful of people I know and they felt that this particular shop could definitely do the work and do it right! So for a total of 2 grand I had the head done, and the gasket replaced, and a few other things taken care of, and have been happily enjoying my 86 SDL ever since!

If you would like the name of that machine shop in CA, let me know via PM and I would be happy to email or message it to you.

I am NOT asking for all of the feedback or comments on what people feel about rebuilding a bad head. I am just simply stating the luck that I have had, and a shop that did good work IN MY OPINION!

Good luck with your car, and hope you get her back on the road soon. My brother and I just took advantage of the Pick Your Parts 50% off weekend special and scored big time on a ton of stuff for our cars!
