Smile Well Hello there! Best price? Hmmm....

I paid nearly $300 for them when I bought them. Just with inflation they should be worth close to $900. Other complete sets are $700+ and IMO don't look as clean.

If you're still in the LA area I'd be willing to "sell to current bidder at current bid amount" if you would bid $550. Then to sweeten the deal I would absorb the shipping costs. This is the second time I've listed them, so I'm already in it for $72 in Ebay fees. That's why seeing the bid sit at $99 for so long has me freaked out a little.

I truly intended on setting a reserve amount, but by the time I realized I hadn't, there was already a bid, (Yours) so I'm stuck with it.

If the bids don't get higher, soon, I'm considering withdrawing the Ebay listing. I carried these around with me for all these years, because I really like them. Seeing that gorgeous blue 300SD sell 2 weeks back, reminded me of how much I loved that car. (Mine was the same color.) So now, I'm once again considering buying another w116 300SD, so I'm having a bit of sellers remorse.

As you can see, I only sell on EBay a couple times a year, so it seems like I'm re-learning each time I sell something. I'm hoping to keep my 100% feedback rating though, because my eventual goal is to get my dealers license and sell cars through E-Bay.

Ok, sorry this has become a novel.

So that's, it. Best price $550 minus shipping and handling costs - as stated above.
Now, if you've moved to Thailand or something, then the postage thing wouldn't apply. I figure with postage to LA area, bubble wrap, box etc. I'll be in it for around 50 bucks for the shipping.

Thanks for your answer. I'd be shocked if the eBay auction didn't go a lot higher based on other auctions I've seen -- especially because you've got an excellent description with good pictures to match. That said, $550 is a little bit higher than I'd like to pay since I can get a pair of brand new OEM lights from Adsitco for almost the same price.

Thanks for the encouragement. As for the Adsitco lights, I checked their catalog and found that they look nice. With current exchange rates, I don't see how they can sell German Manufactured parts so inexpsively. I'd be interested to know where they are made, if anyone knows. Adsitco does sell Chinese fenders and stuff, but when they have genuine OEM they list it that way, along with a corespondingly higher price.

Does anyone know for sure where they are made?

Here's the response from Adsitco:
116 Euro headlights - $595 pair.
These come complete with the bulbs and the adaptor kits. These are O.E. Bosch headlight assemblies. You can get a 10% discount if you use our online catalog at www.adsitco.com.

From which of the many countries Bosch has factories in?

I sugest you buy theirs if you think they are superior.

I've seen lights exactly identical to mine, with the auto adjusters, sell for over $900 on EBay. If I were puting them on a well preserved, original car, I'd rather go with well preserved original headlights. Most of the ones that stayed on cars in Europe since the 1970's have severe corrosion.

On my old, poorly preserved 240d, I went with foreign made knock offs too.

Austion ended

Hah! Beat by a girl!

Incidently, in my first listing my reserve was $449, and the top bid was only $156.

Anyway, I feel good about the outcome. Sorry for you though,

If you need some badly, let me know, and I can keep my eyes peeled. I'm going to be selling a lot of items on ebay over the next few months, so spending lots of time there.

That is well above the normal price for these lights. I paid around a $140 for a nearly perfect set less than a year ago. A few other sets I turned down had minor minor flaws for less. Of the three bigger chassis for euro's (w123, w116 and w126) the w123 usually command the highest price, followed closely by the w126, and w116 usually much less. That's by looking at what sells here and on ebay.

Really? The ones on my 123 were around $150, made in China, and they tend to wink at oncoming traffic.

The Euro rounds, which probably look the coolest, seem to be the rarest.

Anyway, I have watched prices for these lights, casually over the last few years, and seen them go for prices all over the place. There does seeem to be a lot more competition lately from cheaper sources.

The price for that new lense is remarkably low. My lenses weren't pitted, just the barely noticeable chip/partial bulseye. If it were me I was thinking of using a winshield repair kit to insure it can't become a crack and grow larger. But I really think they'll be just fine, unless they hit something else.

But Ebay is weird! I've seen cars that were virtually identical well preserved original condition go for $3600 - $13k for practically the same thing. I've also seen simmilarly HUGE dicrepancies for comparable examples of Clean Vanagon Westfalias.
