FS: Trisco Palm Scan for Benz diagnostic scanner / code reader

I bought this several months ago from another forum member, but I have since upgraded to a more complete (but also much more expensive) scanner solution. So, I no longer need the Trisco setup. The Palm Scan was $600 when new, purchased in 2005 (original receipt included). Works fine, guaranteed not DOA. This unit will read 3-digit "sub-codes" just like the factory Mercedes HHT or Star DAS/Compact, where applicable (see attached screen shot - where the LED blinker shows "2", the Trisco will show one of the six specific codes instead - far more useful information).

Kit includes power adapters, 38-pin multiplex cable, 16-pin OBD2 cable, and 1-pin cable for older 8- or 16-pin diagnostic sockets. Also includes owner's manual and soft carry case. If you need them, I will include a worldwide EPC, WIS, and StarFinder as part of the package. The WIS has diagnostic information on how to troubleshoot the vehicle, for the code(s) thrown.

Asking $350.

What's the firmware revision??

For interested parties, check out Menu#3 for details of how it operates. Pics show operation on my S500.

Jim, mine has firmware v3.1E, which I believe is the latest version. (?) Thanks for reminding me about your page, I had forgotten you had a writeup specifically for this unit!

That's the latest.

I bought one last year at a great price and it solved my "ETA" problem (Menu#24, "Update" section) by pointing to the Neutral Safety Switch.

Will this work for an '05 CDI? What solution did you upgrade too? I'm not interested in one at the moment, just trolling for info.

Answering for gxsr, it works on all MBs from 1988 thru 2002 as is stated in Menu#3.

gsxr,

Sorry about your experience with this scanner (as you describe from the other forum). For me, as long as it is in working order (and you said it was fixed) I will gladly take it off your hands. I need a decent priced scanner because my car started developing the dreaded ASR issue. I would like to have one handy for reading present/future codes that may come up

JimF,

I have been reading your website with a passion. All I can say is Wow!!! There are so many information that I can use to diagnose future problems with my car. Thank you so much.

Yup, it will work fine on a 400SEL (thanks for the response, Jim!). Just shoot me an email if you'd like to buy it... PayPal is fine, or cashier's check / money order works too.

John, the scanner would work on your '87 and '92, but really isn't needed... those models have analog codes only. The M119 has digital systems and the scanner can tell you more than the blink codes willl show. For your '05, though... that's gonna be tough. You'll need something a lot newer, and I don't know if you could find anything under $1k for your CDI. I'm not sure though, I haven't seriously investigated what's needed for newer cars, since my newest is still a 1994!

Glad you like it . . . let me know if I can help.

The Palm scanner is a good little unit and I have one also. I think you'll like it. It's not an AST Retriever but it's perfect for early MBs up to 2002.

John, this unit has been sold, however I have another, different setup available which has more capabilities than the Trisco. I emailed you with details, let me know if you didn't receive the message...

MB scanner

Is the Trisco scanner still available? Does it tell you more than blinks on a 1992 NM 400se?

John, the Trisco is long gone. It does provide 3-digit digital codes for the E-GAS module, which are not available from the blink code reader. But it does not show any live data.

For your 1992-93 400SE with LH injection, I would recommend a Snap-On MT2500 scanner with 38-pin adapter cable MB-1, personality keys S-20, S-21, S-33, S-34, and the 2003 "red" Mercedes software cartridge. The Snap-On system has a few bugs and quirks, but overall it's the best thing you can get for ~$400 or so (source the stuff from eBay and Snap-On, depending on the prices).

More info on code reading, forn your 400SE, is in this document.

Information about the MT2500 capabilities with the 2003 software is in this document, details on the live data available on your 400SE is in this PDF file.
