5 speed ID

Does anyone have any photos and/or listing of ID numbers that would help identify a 5 speed transmission, and determine what it came from, or what it might work with?
The first post had a couple of numbers that would take a list to decipher.

regards,
Mark

On the right side, near the drain plug, spray it down with brake clean, and it will be plain as day.

Mark, I've used the Mercedes "Technical Data" books a number of times for identification of Engines, trans, differential ratios, shift linkage layout, etc. Size of a paperback, various issue years available, sometimes found on e-bay.

A W123 coupe is on ebay as of a day or two ago (colorado, north of Denver). It's listed a 280CE with a standard trans. I asked the seller. He says it's a 5-speed. -CTH

1. Was this transmission a standard?
2. What engines would it fit?

Hi,
AFAIK:
the 717.400 fits all W123 diesels and the 6-cylinder petrols (M110).
the 717.401 fits all the other W123 petrol models (M102)

They were both factory options.

So this getrag would bolt up to a 617?

I am assuming its the getrag from a sixteen valve one nintey.

That thing sold awhile ago but I thought the OM617 fitting ones don't bolt up to the gasser motors due to the starter location.
