1985-500SEL-Euro Differential for Sale

I bought this about 4 years ago with the intention of installing it in my 1982 300sd for better mileage and reduced RPM's. Never installed. Fits W126 chassis, the ratio is 2.47. Located in Arlington, TX. Asking $150. Can send pictures if interested.

Thanks

It is an LSD, the numbers on the unit are R126 351 0308, the guy I got it from said that it would fit my 300sd. But, I never got around to it.

Will it fit a Gen II euro? I understand there are marked differences between Gen I & Gen II that makes Gen II installation unfeasible? Experts please advise since I am seriously interested to make my 420SE euro LSD.

I'd be interested if it really was a Gen I LSD. I have no way of knowing though.

Anyone?

Did you remove the cover to check the internals out?

It is a Gen I, but as to being LSD We need to see the LSD grease plate on the rear lower right(passenger side) and the Ratio Lower Left (drivers side, the cast in flange by the cover, where the ratio is stamped. The Axles may need to be changed.

I would think thats a 224 ratio.

Its stamped on the flat part of the housing next to where the rear cover bolts on. Left side IIRC.

He stated that it was 2.47.
Gen II is mounted totally different than a Gen I Gen II will only work if you change out the rear sub frame to Gen II Sub frame as well.

Carlo(s): Find one from any 560SEC or SEL, that will be the easiest route.

It's definitly a Gen 1, fitting all models up to prod. date 09/85. I'm not doubting the seller since most euro diff's were LSD but a photo of the "spezial oil" tag on the rear cover or VIN of the donor car or a photo of the internals will put this discussion to bed pretty quick.

I know what he stated but he showed a part number but inexplicably did not show the stamped ratio. All euro 500s I have seen have had a 224 diff. lots of folks don't state things correctly in their ads. Although its pretty easy to look at the diff housing you can also tell by the hash marks on the speedo (assuming the speedo or diff have never been changed).

Since the limited slip was not offered (that I am aware of) in the us spec 500 the fact that it is Limited slip (if indeed it is) also leads me to believe its a 224.

Or if it IS a 247 I would question whether its limited slip and even if the car is a euro.

Just trying to keep folks from having misunderstandings. Having sold parts to folks before that were not what I thought they were and having to refund their money is no fun. Of course getting the wrong part would be no fun either.

Good chance. It depends I believe on the year. Look at the way the diff mounts to your chassis and check to see if the one you want to install mounts the same way. There may also be some differences in the attachment of the axles but I believe that is fairly easy to work out.

Still for sale? Any more pictures? The part number shown is I believe just the p/n for the rear cover itself, not the whole diff, so it doesn't help identify whether this really is a limited slip unit, nor the ratio. Like other posters said, both can be pretty easily determined by looking at the other markings on the case.
