Looking for column lock & ignition switch

Well, it finally happened. My ignition switch siezed up. I tried every tip and trick I could find after searching the posts on the forum. Vibration, flushing with spray lubricant, blasting compressed air, cranking on the steering wheel. No dice.

Soooo, I followed the process outlined here
http://dieselgiant.com/mercedes_diesel_maintenance_tips1%20page%202.htm
...and ground down the pin that holds the lock assembly in the column.

BTW, if anyone else tries to follow this same process to repair theirs, I don't know a better way to get the igntion switch to clear the dash, but following the directions in that article didn't work worth a DAMN for me. Pulling out on the part of the dash under the lock resulted in MULTIPLE new cracks in the vinyl of my dash

Anyway, now that I've ground the pin off of it I need to replace the whole steering column & igntion switch assembly. Anybody got a good one for sale?

Daw

You need to turn the ignition over to see if your item is for a diesel.

When the ignition freezes up it is usually the piece in the rear of the housing that connects to the electrical portion of the switch. A person really needs to remove the dash.. about 20-30 minutes and then do not grind the little pin off but use a small grinder with a .032 wafer blade and cut the ignition shaft off close to where it goes into the steering housing tube... This will release the tension on the pin and the remainder will pull right out of the tube. I have done this, outside, at 7 below zero.. Bought the car for 7 hundred dollars.

I do have the parts you need with a key but I do not have the door handles etc. You would need to continue using your keys as part of a set for your doors and trunk..

Your dash is easy to repait.. maybe a little messy but I rebuild dashes so they look brand new...

If you are interested in the steering columm and the ignition assembly just send me a email and I can send you some pictures.. jimh16671836@yahoo.com
