W115 diesel engine wanted - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I need a good engine for my 73 220D - a well-running 615 or 616 engine, preferably in Texas (unless you feel like shipping freight and the price is right). Please let me know if you have any possibilities.

Good luck finding one. They are tough to find in good shape. I have seen many languishing at the yards in the past but every one in the yard means one less available. I thought Hit Man X had some awhile ago...and he's in TX....but my memory gets fuzzy.

well...balls. maybe I should just take out the one I have and fix it.

That's always an option but the cost will not be cheap if you rebuild it properly: valve job and surface the head, new timing chain, new chain guides, new rings, probably resleeve and bore and hone the cylinders, new water pump while you are at it.
The odds on finding a good used engine for the 115 is like winning the lottery but I have seen some fair engines for next to nothing if your in the right place at the right time. A foreign auto parts place once told me they no longer bought 115 chassis because the parts are not in much demand, but at the same time there was one sitting on his lot so I asked him how he got that and he said the owner just wanted to get rid of it. It looked pretty good. Come to think of it, I need some black seats or seatcovers for my W115, some late style MB Tex seats from a 74 or 75 300D would be nice. I would like to find a Euro 280 with a stick shift too (talk about slim chances

I will call around and if I hear of a good engine I'll get back to you with details. Its worth shipping a known good engine cross country, if the price is right.

This guy sounds like he may be confused about the engine type, but if it is indeed from a 220D it may be what you need.
