What year are those seats? What are they installed in?

Thanks for those pictures! For others who may find and read this thread in the future, from the looks of the trays you've acquired the hinge mechanism looks very much like the hinge mechanisms used in Jaguar cars with a similar feature! I’ve recently grabbed a couple pairs of these hinges from some Jags in my local bone yard in anticipation that someday in the future when I had nothing else to occupy my time I might build some seat back tables. My heirs will most likely be wondering what the hell the hinges are as they dig through my accumulated treasures years down the road after I’m gone, but none the less I’m pretty certain that these Jag hinges would work for any similar seat back tables someone could construct! And my experience is that quite a few Jags of the late 80’s and 90’s have this as an installed option. Window shades, that’s another matter although 7 and 8 series BMWs sometimes have rear side window shades and larger rear window shades that might offer a more readily available source of just the shade material that might be usable if that’s all you need and you still have the essential roller shade mechanisms. Thanks and good luck!

The tables themselves have no make or model designation markings. The tables required for the Recaro seat backs are smaller than most that I came across during my search which added to the difficulty in finding the appropriate size.
This is the vehicle in which they are installed, 1985 500SEL AMG European Grey Market Edition Limited Limo with factory installed rear side and back window curtains. |

A nice look for sure, but pretty sure those are from a Jaguar Vanden Plas of some vintage. Certainly a clever idea, but the tables are made of different wood than the Burl or Zebrano, then there is that very Jaguar-ish inlay just like the Vanden Plas have on all their wood panels.

That is the most incredible example of a w126 I have ever seen. It embodies the very essence of the w126 and the 80's cultural and aesthetic symbol that it was. badass. |
