Gorgeous 560SL being parted out

My 560SL is being totalled after a red light runner took it out. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/1439220-560sl-seriously-damaged.html. I will be getting the salvage value from my insurance company this week and based on that will decide if I walk away from it or part it out. I'm asking you to let me know if there are any parts you might need. The car is still gorgeous from the A pillar back and still has a great engine and transmission. Red exterior and palomino interior and four very good tires on original wheels that have been chromed. Your replies will help me determine if there is enough interest in its parts for me to take on the parting out job myself. I'd really hate for it to go to a junk yard and be turned over to the vultures.

I have decided to buy the car back from the insurance company and will be parting it out. Car will be here today, so let me know what your needs are. As an FYI, I am making a trip to Roanoke, VA and Raleigh, NC this weekend. If anyone wants something big and bulky and/or difficult to ship and you live in those areas or even if you want me to leave them at one of those locations for a future pick up, let me know and we can discuss your needs.

blower motor + drivers side seat

Hi - I'd like to buy your ac/heat blower motor assembly and the drivers side seat if it doesn't have any tears - if necessary I will buy both seats. Please contact me at jody@klendesign.com - or 404.822.3526

Thanks.

Owners Manual

Len,

My heart really goes out to you. Sounds like you're as attached to your SL as I am. My wife gracefully agreed to my purchase at my retirement in 1994, and it's now part of the family. I suspect one of my chldren will be glad to take it over one day; it's Diamond Blue, and a real eye catcher.

Unfortunately, while in for a routine LOF, pages 1 thru 15 of my owners manual went missing. I guess they figured I'd miss the entire book immediately? Several weeks later, I discovered the pages missing when I looked in the book for a description of the warning lights in the dash.

I sincerely hope that you won't have to part with your car, if that's financially feasible? Meanwhile, any thing you can offer to assist me will be appreciated.

Please respond to sMihaly137@aol.com if you are able to be of any help.

Thank you,

steve M

Len,

sorry you had to go the way of parting the car out; it looked like it had really been a nice car before the accident. Have you had a chance to review my request for a 560SL Owner's Manual?

Car is now in my possession and I am beginning to part it out. Let me know your needs. I am trying to keep up with all the messages I've been getting. Guess not many SL's in this condition are parted out very often. Please contact me at my personal address if you haven't heard from me in a few days.

IMO the wheels are in good shape. They are the OE wheels of the period and were chromed at some point in their life. That was a California thing to do I think. The car lived nearly all its life in CA. The fact that the wheels are twenty years old does mean that they are not perfect. The chrome has some pitting starting, but still look very good. None of the chrome is flaking off anywhere and there are no areas of any curb rash. My thought is that I'd like to get $150 for each of the four chromed wheels and tires. The spare which has a brand new tire on it is not chromed. The tires are Continental ContiExtremeContact in the original 205/65R15 size. Tires were all balanced less than 500 miles ago. They have less than 4000 miles on them and should have a date code of about February, 2007.

I am trying to set prices that are fair to both the buyer and me. I'm not trying to gouge anyone, so if you see something similar that tends to show my price out of line, please let me know.

I'm in NC on the coast between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. I also make trips every once in awhile to Raleigh, Roanoke, VA and southern MD. Not sure if I can fit five wheel/tires in at once, but whatever I can deliver would save on shipping them.
