FS: AMG Pentas 16x8 With nearly new Tires

I have decided to part with my genuine AMG Pentas. Anyone who attended the recent California GTG at the classic center saw them mounted to my 300D. They were refinished via powder coating the entire wheel and look great. They no longer have the polished lip, as the photos will show. Included are four new black AMG center caps.

Comes with 4 nearly new Primewell 225/55Z/R16 tires. I had to replace the fronts due to uneven wear from my W123 aged front end, and they have less than 2,000 miles on them. The rears have 10,000 miles on them.

They feel perfectly balanced even at triple digit speeds. I pulled them off a W126, and have had them on my W123 and W116 chassis cars. The only problem with the cars I mounted them to is the center caps on the front wheels don't clear the caps for the bearings. This would require very small spacers, 5mm or so, to achieve that. Perhaps it won't be an issue with slightly higher offset vehicles.

Selling them for $1200.00. If you want them without tires, I will only take $100.00 off because I won't get much for them used. Shipping will likely run another $200 or so in the 48 US. They are located in Wichita, Ks.

Photos: Since they are mounted on my 6.9 that is currently in the shop I only have the photos of the numbers from when I first purchased them and cars I have subsequently mounted them to. More photos to come. I assure you they all 4 wheels have the same AMG stamping and number sequence and will confirm that with close up photos when I get the car back tomorrow.

I just purchased a near perfect set in near new condition for $600....:eek:

TylerH860 06-02-2009 09:45 PM

Lucky you, did it have tires? I sold another crappy set needing to be refinished/balanced with no tires for that price.

They sell for alot more on ebay. I'm not really needing to sell, so I'm happy to keep them on my 6.9 and wait for someone who really wants them.

I have three questions.

1. Will they bolt directly onto my Generation II 1991 560SEC *without* the need for spacers? You said they are from a W126...if I get them I'd like to have them bolt right on the car.

2. Likewise, will the center caps fit into it, once it is on that car?

3. Are the wheels in good condition with no damage, kerbing, or scratches?

I was at the gtg of which you speak, and did meet you personally. I have an interest in those wheels. Of course at the gtg when I saw you and the car I had no idea at the time they were or would be, for sale.

(At the moment, I just bought a brand new set of 4 Toyo's for my car though.)

Thanks. I would be interested in purchasing these from you. I am well known here and reputable.

i'm sorry but taking those off of your 6.9 would be a TRAGEDY. please reconsider, for all of us jealous souls. :)

I agree. I think he'll be sitting on these for a while at that price. :o

Hmmmm, now I need tires and wheels for the white wagon....... :thinking:

Saw two of those AMG pentas in the pic-a-part junk yard in Sun Valley, (SoCal) the other day. You can get them for less than thirty bucks each. Lousy rubber, and no center caps, but wheels look decent. Didn't pick them up myself because, well...what can I do with only two...and couldn't put them on my 300CE nor 190D.

Jim, you are one of the people I really wanted to meet when I was out there, and you lived up to your forum reputation. Dinner was great at the hotel that night before the GTG.

Now that I have a Gen IIW126, I can test fit one on the fronts. These came off of a '84-85 euro 500SEC, and they were fitting perfectly, but I need to check the center caps. I actually got the center caps to fit on the W116 by knocking in the dust covers. The 6.9 is back in the driveway so I can take some better closeups of the wheels.

I would rather have a motor for the SDL than AMG pentas, even though they look incredible on the 6.9.

Well, go and get some then. These have tires that are almost new as well.

I priced them at a point where I'd be willing to part with them. If I were motivated to sell quickly, they would be lower. We are a frugal bunch.

I never thought I'd be on this end of the "price too high spectrum". :eek: I've actually had quite a bit of interest, and quite a few wheel and tire sales under my belt too.

Ultimately I would like them to look like the AMG Pentas on bondavi's 84 euro SEC AMG -- as seen here,

http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...1/IMG_1066.jpg

or even azimuth aviation's, as seen here;

~~~
I need to research the offset for the Gen II wheels I bought, that are on my car now, as it's my wish to simply have them bolt right on, without any modifications like spacers.
Also I vaguely recall that there might possibly be a problem with the front Pentas from a Gen I car not fitting the Gen II cars, because the calipers are different sized
If that's so, I can't buy them.
Maybe if you could test fit them on a Gen II car? If they fit right on, I will take them.
If not, I will pass on them. Hope that helps
Jim B. 06-14-2009 01:43 AM
possible issue... Gen I and Gen II fitment...
WRT the caliper fitment issue, through I fast search turned this information up ---
What do you think?:confused:
Squabble 06-14-2009 07:35 AM
well, they will look great on jims car too....
they easily go for that much on German/British e-bay, at least one set a month, especially with the tires.
if these things grow on trees at the pick-a-parts in california, then i'm moving. but something tells me that's not true. and as far as finding "only two" and leaving them, i've seen broken sets, single pentas, and rusty broken crap pentas sell for sell for outrageous amounts of money on e-bay.
tyler, you are justified, the proof is in the interest.
TylerH860 06-14-2009 02:13 PM
I will test fit one of the wheels right now for you Jim, and take better photos. If you want them you are going to have to give me a few days to refinish some bundts and mount tires to them for the 6.9 before I ship.
TylerH860 06-14-2009 02:56 PM
I guess I finally solved the mystery of what specifically these Pentas were made for. Coincidentally its Gen II W126s. The cleared the calipers and look fine. All Jim would need to do is get shorter lugs (borrowed some from my 6.9) and knock in his dust cover a bit. The center caps almost fit on the SDL without knocking them in, the rest of the cars never came close.
They are a bit dirty in the photos. You can see how these are different than the ones mounted on the Gen I up above.
