I bought my 82 300D with a knock, now I am trying to consider my options. I am not looking to buy now because I don't have the cash saved up yet. I am located in SW MO, and I can't seem to find much that is for sale within ~100 miles. I am wondering if anyone on here has an engine for sale for around 500.00. It doesn't necessarily have to run, but it must have a good bottom end.

I've bought entire cars with good 617 motors in that rough price range. Save up some money and look around.

I have one with with 163k miles on it with a transmission for $800. It's from an 85 300D. OM617 with a turbo. Runs perfect. Had a valve job, glow plug job, turbo cleaning job and all that before it came out of the car.

I'm in Chicago...for a perfect engine and transmission i dont think $800 could be beat.

I have a transmission that works fine, but unfortunately Chicago is too far. I won't be able to drive to get it if it is withing 100 miles.

I don't know, I'll have to save up some money, and maybe some serious convincing to get my dad to drive further than 100 miles!

For $500 you should be able to get an excellent running engine. I found one last year 65 miles away with less than 75k on it since it was installed in the car (original MB rebuilt replacement motor).....and only paid $550....its extremely strong and runs amazing...truly a youthful motor!
