W210 spring perch repair panel *NEW*

I have a BRAND-NEW passenger side w210 spring perch panel for sale. Brand new with the mercedes stickers still on it. It is the latest version of the replacement panel with the updated sealant around the spot welds, and is the larger replacement panel with perch already welded on, not just the little perch piece.

I paid $315 for this part at the MB dealer 2 months ago, thinking I would have a welder friend of mine put it in. MB ended up covering my spring perch repair, so I bought the part unnecessarily.

Anyhow my loss is your gain, I'll sell it for $215 shipped. That's $100 less than what you'll pay anywhere else for this brand new Genuine Mercedes part!

do you have any information on how the panel is attached? Secondly how did you get MB to cover the repair?

Lupin, can you talk about how you got MBz to cover the repair? Did you suffer a failure?

Thx.

The official procedure that MB calls for is to cut the old perch off, then use a bunch of VERY heavy pop-rivets to attach this panel over top of the existing body work, then seal everything in a heavy layer of undercoating. This is MB-NA's official procedure. One of the forum guru's here posted PDF of the official procedure a while back, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. My repair was performed using this same rivet method by the dealer's in-house collision center. I've heard of others having the repair performed at an independent body shop where they cut out the old panel and weld this one in place of it. I suppose you could do either. MB probably does the rivet method since it's less labor hours for them to write off.

They covered my repair because I experienced a failure, the perch has a few tiny spot-welds on either side of it. The spots welds on one side of the perch let go, so the whole perch was hanging there twisted and crooked. My local dealer covered it when I brought it in. That said, we had just bought another MB from this same dealership, so I'm sure that was a factor in their decision to cover this repair. They told me they don't typically cover vehicles with such high mileage on them (170k).

W210 spring perch pulling away experience

I took my car to the local dealer for a routine allignment last fall. They could not do it. I needed ctrl arm bushings, so after replacing them and driving off the remainder of my Good year triple treads I returned with a fresh set of tires for the alignment.
Between last september and this week the perch has began seperating form the mounting area.

When theallignment was done they told me the Driver side perch was pulling away and soon would come off. I asked if MB would help as I felt it was a mfg defect. The svc rep told me with the mileage 189K that it would be doubtfull. He told me the repair should be between 3&4 Hundred$. I called the MB body shop and was told probably closer to 1K$.

I contacted MB USA and asked if they would fix the car. I got the usual, we respond in 24 hours and they did. The call was a fact finding attempt by a legal rep. She told me they would contact the dealer and be in touch within the next 10 days with a final decision. She actually gave me a phone# and ext where I could reach her.

Some of the questions were strange but it boiled down to can you and are you still driving the car? One thing was discovereed in our conversation. MB will not recommend that I stop driving the car. Does the car have rust issues and how long have I had the car. For some reason the dealer never reported me as the owner so we had to clearify that and the amount of work id had done by the dealer. I do quite a bit of buisness with them, parts repairs, things I cant do myself go there.

Now I wait. Im guessing they are going to see if the perch will fail under use. I have measured it and it is about 1 inch from the fender well on the front side and still intact on the trailing edge.

Ill post the outcome.
