Might part out R107 280SL

I am thinking of parting out an Euro 107 body 280SL. It is stock euro: bumpers, head lights w/ wipers, and manual tranny. If I get enough interest in the parts I'll pick it up and part it out.

Is it still available for parts? I am looking for the complete front and rear bumpers. Please email me at dessinllc@mac.com. Thanks.

I haven't been able to get the buyer to a realistic price. The car is an ex-Florida Bondo rust-bucket. The owner talks about how he has $10,000 in the car and expects at least 1/2 of that for it as it is now, a pile of crap.

Out of curiosity how is the rest of the car? Is it just the fenders, or is the under body a mess? That would be a fun car to put back together with some junkyard fenders for a couple thousand bucks. My SL had some fender rust problems from Flordia but the rest of the car was solid and in pretty good shape.

It's a mess. All of the interior is crap. The trunk hinge supports are rusted so that the car crunches when you open the trunk. The owner says that it has a blown head gasket and he was going to put a Chevy small block in it... I like the car because it's a 4 spd stick and has euro headlights with wipers. The BBS rims need to be repainted. When I offered him $1100 for it he told me that the rims were worth $2000.....

It's amazing how unrealistic some people are on the value of cars. I was looking at a SEC for sale today, 3K; the good news, it had Ronal wheels and perfect f/r bumpers, no body damage, a very decent engine (cam nicer than on my car!). But it was no deal in spite of the actually reasonable price because (a) the battery was dead, (b). The drivers door was unlatchable, and (c). The car's repaint was so unfreakingly, unbeleivably bad that I would have been laughed out of my high school's parking lot 30 years ago with a car painted like this. I kid you not. I went to school with a kid who actually did a more credible job with a brush. (b) was the real dealbreaker. a tip to these people; if a car is not startable and driveable, subtract 90% of the value of the car unless it is a prewar classic. If it ain't driveable, it's a pile of parts and worth exactly that. Even if it's just "out of gas" or "needs a $2.00 part". If that's all it needs, do it before trying to sell it!! Also, in my opinion, a BAD repaint is worth a lot less than HORRIBLE, PEELING, SUNBURNED, and MISSING original paint!! If you can't do it, don't do it!!

In case you do buy this beast and if it has factory air, I'm in for the compressor lines and condensor for use as mock-up parts. Winter project (maybe ) is factory air into my 83 280SL. Thanks.

Hi, I need a left hand trunk spring (it's a torsion bar not a coil spring) for an R107. Ca you help out from your parting-out car please? Email me at steve_fzr@yahoo.com.
Regards, Steve C
