FS Rebooted OE pulled, axles.
I'm going to pull all the axles from the cars in my yard, and reboot the cracked OE axles. I'll run them through the parts washer, change and pack the boots with flexx boots, and put them up for sale.
I'm posting this to gauge how many I wanna do. I hear CJV is not going to be selling reman's and the crud advance is selling don't seem worth buying. lemme know. I have 7 123's all with intact axles I'm going to part out the entire cars asap, so I will store them in my loft and sell as I can. is there any go/no go test on the axles before wasting a good boot on them? should I measure slop once cleaned out of grease, or if there is no damage, and they don't feel siezed, they are good to reboot? lemme know. |
If people are kept aware and the price is right you will do okay. Fourteen axles with new boots will go pretty fast I imagine. I would do four and when they sold boot four more.
I would mark the side of the car they were removed from so new owner will have the option of putting them on the other side. Maybe a small letter punch? It was sad that the chinese aftermarket axles were questionable. There is no doubt they are. I always thought in general you were better off with a good looking example from a salvage yard than one of theirs. Someday they may be much better but that time is not here yet. Good initiative and application. |
that's a good IDea! I can use the paint pen like JY's do.
that would double the life of the axles. good idea indeed. I can also post the indicated mileage on the cars I pull them from. (nothing is certain that the mileage will be right though...) |
Depending on the price, I'd definitely be in for a set.
|
I might spring for two if the price is right.
|
Starting the rebooting procedures!
|
Assuming the price is right and you use OE boots, I'll be interested as well.
|
At the right price... I will take a pair. How much!
|
Yeesh!
OK< I've got two sets marked and ready to reboot. I've got the boots, and the gun. my parts washer is filtered and I'm cleaning out all traces of the OE oil, and grit from the outside of the axles. I have two annular, two sets with large cans on the inboard side, and several sets with the normal equal size cans. some look like they have been rebooted before, they have screw clamps on the boots, not crimp clamps. I'll save those for later sales. I am not assembling them until I have orders, because I wanna be sure the buyers want synthetic oil, or grease. LMK! |

I am using Astoria2000 boots, and your choice of grease or Mobil1 gear oil. I have sold one axle, and the buyer is very happy. I've got 11 more ready to ship. let the orders begin! (help me pay for this gun and the boots!) $125 shipped ground contiguous US expedited shipping extra! |
Are you selling these outright, or require a core?
|
I'm interested in a set too. And yes is there core? You can have my old ones.
|
Is the $125 for a set or each axle? I need one now that my newly rebooted drivers side axle decided to go bust on me...
|
Can someone explain this process to me? Rebooting means replacing the broken/torn/etc., boot on the axle, correct? Does the axle itself have levels of wear that should be considered before it is rebooted? Meaning, if a junk axle is rebooted, how good is it?
I'm potentially interested in a set, as well. |
