WTB: Good used 606.962 Head

Looking to buy a good used Head for the '99 E300 Turbo Diesel (606.962). Any documented one would be ideal if possible. Not sure what a used one typically goes for but not looking to spend too much. The closer to Nashville, Tn the better but willing to have it shipped from almost anywhere. Willing to offer $50 finders fee if you locate the one we purchase (paid thru paypal).

If you know of one or have one laying around please reply here or by PM with details, location, price, etc...

Willing to pick-up within a 200-250 mile radius of 37167. Looking to buy one asap!

Thanks,
Jamie

Jaime - can't help you out, but as a fellow E300 owner, I'd be interested to know why you need a new head.

Well Len, the car belongs to my brother. We were in the process of getting it ready to sell. The CE and GP lights on the cluster were always on and our indy diagnosed it as needing two GP's. We didn't want to sell it like that so we got the GP's for him to put on and two of them were stuck. To make a long story short he ended up having to drill out the two stuck GP's. I don't know much about cars or anything (hence why we have an idny) but he got everything done and put back together, started the car up (ran fine he said), shut it off and it wouldn't start after that. He took the VC off and noticed antifreeze showing from two of the valves (wished I would've gotten a picture). He's pretty certain there's a problem with the head now but won't know for sure until he takes it apart further. I'm trying to get started on locating a used one.

We had this same problem a couple years ago. He ended up having to get a new head from Germany (~$2500) and having it put on. Ended up costing $4,000 in the end. That was less than 50k miles ago. We're looking for a much cheaper solution (a used head) to get it running right and just part ways with the car. We don't really want to fool around with this problem again but we wouldn't be able to get much for the car as-is and it's too nice a car to part out. Plus we don't have any way to do that where we live.

Hope this helps...

Any leads on used heads are appreciated!

-Jamie

Jamie - don't know the whole story and I certainly don't want to point fingers, but if your coolant leak and bad head showed up after your indy drilled out two glow plugs, I think I am seeing a relationship there and where responsibility may lie. Sorry to hear of your problems. You might want to contact Potomac-German. They have yards in MD and FL and might be able to help. Be careful though because it is possible that those heads may have stuck glow plugs too.

Try www.car-part.com, currently no .962 heads come up, but you can submit a form that salvage places see and if they have a head they'll contact you.

I just used the site to buy a documented 59k mile .912 complete motor for the '97.

Good luck!
