603 Engine parts- 2 complete engines
 

I have 2 complete 603 engines for parts.

No heads, IP's, turbos or oil pans.

But everything else is there. 2 good blocks, pistons, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, intake tubes, valve covers, everything.

Any 603.971 specific parts? .970?

No, one is a 603.960 the other a 603.961

I have a couple of the old "flat faced" original vacuum pumps. $20 + $10 to ship.

Have to ask though, why?

Hi. I believe I had a pump failure - loss of brake boost, intermittent engine shutdown problems. This was followed by a more serious failure, I think the pump came apart.

Usually when the pumps fail they do alot of collateral damage.


Did you take the old one off?

I am not sure what I have at this point. I knew (or thought I knew) the pump was going bad as I said above. My wife was driving the car and it lost power, blew black smoke & stopped; the engine still has oil in it. The timing chain broke thru the valve cover, but seems to be in one piece and there are no pieces of metal visible from above, anywhere around the cam and no marks on the chain or cam sprocket. I am having some trouble with the last bolt on the vacuum pump and I need to pull the fan and radiator out for better access. It may be that the chain jumped a tooth and there is nothing wrong with the pump. Requires further surgery. Thanks for your interest.

Best of luck. That sounds like a timing pump taking out the chain and then the engine, but maybe you're lucky, ... don't invest in parts until you get it apart.

If you want to keep the car

I'll wager you want one of my short blocks for $250.

The last bolt is tough because of the tensioner as I remember you need to take the tensioner spring & tensioner shock off & then the tensioner can rotate out of the way.

Possibly --- I have limited time to work on it during the week, so it'll take me a bit to figure out what is wrong. If nothing else - curiosity is killing me - a good motivator.

JohnS, sounds like the vacuum pump in your engine blew out and messed up the innards somewhat. Hopefully it is not too bad, but you can't tell until you take it apart a bit. Best of luck.
One way to find pieces is to take off the side cover of the oil pan (passenger side) and see what has collected in your oil pan - probably bits of vacuum pump.

I have the vacuum pump off and it is definitely toast. The only damage I see is to what appears to be a sheet metal guard from around the pump and that is pretty minor. The face cam on the lower sprocket is ok, I still don't see any pieces in there. I will take off the side cover as suggested to see if there is anything in the pan. Not knowing exactly what a good pump looks like, it appears that the only pieces missing are the balls from the bearing. Does anyone know if it is possible for the chain to jump a tooth or two still stay in one piece and also not gouge the sprockets?

If one ball got in the wrong place, it can cause trouble. It's a crap shoot.
