wanted complete rear axle assembly 280se 4.5

Gentlemen THE GOOD NEWS
I have a new car - 1972 280se - that I purchased from another member ,a great guy ( Whiskey Dan )and had shipped to Maryland from Texas.
NOW THE BAD NEWS
It appears my transport driver took some liberties with this car and damaged the rear axle .After taking the car off the trailer - giving it the once over -no dents scratches - drove around block - a slight clunk noise - thought it was exhaust system clunk. Parked in driveway and paid driver.
Sat.morning - get up walk around unit ,enjoying the view ,sipping coffee (wife says -don't start that thing- its not 6:00 am yet and its too loud)
The car has a chevy drive train sbc v-8 with gm700r-4 transmission.

PATIENTLY WAIT UNTIL 7:00 AM - Start unit , drive around , get out of the neighborhood and goose it once - just enough to chirp the wheels as it goes through 2nd gear . Back into the neighborhood and 19 year old daughter wants to drive . Let her drive through the neighborhood one time . Then again I drive - hear ominous clunk at low speed turning corner
pull up to neighbors house - they are having coffee and wave us down -they want to see the new unit. Place car in neutral , chat for a bit, say goodbye ,place in drive and it was the sound of a chandelier dropping from the ceiling. AGHHHHH UGLY , big oil mess and 3-4 pieces of gears and housing on the ground .
The car is still sitting in front of her house - big sand pile trying to soak up the oil.
Sorry for the long post - Dan and I have communicated back and forth - he has contacted some folks and I as well ,so I apologize up front if we've contacted you over the long weekend .The item I'm in need of is-
The whole rear axle from a w108 body 68-72 280 se 4.5 with 3.27 gear ratio
I say w108 BUT IF THERE IS ANOTHER INTERCHANGE I'm not aware of please let me know that as well ( w111- body style -is that the same differential setup?)
I 'm looking to contact the carrier broker this a.m. ( but it was a cash deal -not sure how that is going to work )
thanks

Aware of the fact that it's got the GM transmission now, was there a odometer reading before and after it came off the truck?

When the car was picked up the shipper's (young) driver was fascinated with the engine install. It was loaded on the trailer BEHIND two non-running cars.

Two DIFFERENT cars when it arrived.

That really is a shame. I wonder if the driver will admit that they mucked it up. It will be difficult to prove since it was "functional" upon delivery. I wonder if the TC is roasted too?

IF....

Sorry to hear about the incident.

Please let me know if a 1967 250SE complete rearend and axles would work. I'm buying an engine and transmission out of the car and I could get the rearend/axles, too, for you; then ship them to you.

1969-280SE

I have a complete 1969-280SE with low mileage that I am parting out. It was in storage outside at the Food Bank in Evansville, Indiana and was a income tax donation. They let it set and started the car about once a month. But it has rust and some light damage to the front end. Odometer shows 69K The interior and dash look like it just came out of a showroom.. So I need the front fender and a few odds and ends but most of the car is available.. I have a 280-450 that I am restoring for a doctor.. I will check the differentials and axles.. Jim

I haven't pulled a car apart in a few years but the 4.5 rear ends are in demand by the 113 SL crowd. I could sell them as-is as fast as I could pull them for $500.

The rears for the w109 mount differently due to the different suspensions.

If your ring and pinion gears are still good you might rebuild a cheaper donor rear end with the 3.27 gears..

rear end at the local u pull junkyard

There are two W108 250S sedans with the rear ends still attached at the Mt. Airy Crazy Rays junkyard. Right off Rt 27, Exit #68 off highway 70 between Baltimore and Frederick.
Go and help yourself to one of them.
Just there myself.

I am curious, how are the gears are any welded, ask the man who set it up if he did,
That is a old hot rod trick , weld the gears To make it a posie. That why when you where on a turn and gas it ,it broke.Have sean a couple cars with 350,s in them.
about 25 yr ago there was a 111 couple a man was doing he can to us for parts, we said no way we did not want any part's of it. [It was going to FLA when done] But it was tubed out with a different rear[dayna ? spelling may be wrong] I beleave they are" bullet proof'. He was having a problem geting the power to the ground. It would sure smoke the tire's ,if that what you want. I could not see much of your engine. It looked like you have a spread board intake, they produce there power at low rpms. What is the power ban [when does It come to life].You said it was a truck engine, what does the blancer look like, and I belive the casting # is 018 for the 4 bolt main engines, looking at engine it in the left rear on top.any way best of luck.
