Seeking a 722.303 transmission

I'm looking for a 722.303 transmission for a 1981 300SD. The 722.303 was used in the 1981-1985 300SD and in the 1981 300TD Turbo wagon, so as long as it's from either one of those models, it will work. If you've got a good working one you're willing to part with, let me know.

Need tranny upgrade

Ive looked around here and need some more info. 85 cali 300sd is what i have. I lost 4th gear in trans. Ive done filter and fluid with TransX. Vac is right on. I have 100miles on it and 4th will engage at low rpm for 10 secs. then disappear about 2 out every 10 trys. Fluid was clean no debris in pan, all other gears shift awesome. My question is: What models can I substitute in place of the 722.4 and can I use my torque convertor with different trans? I would like to put a ???? 303 or a 315 in, are hook ups the same. Some of this has shown up on threads in bits and pieces.

A 722.303/315 will physically bolt on to the engine. The torque converter from your 722.4 will not fit a 722.3, input shaft hole is physically smaller on the .4 and has different spine arrangement. To have the same acceleration performance, you'll need to get an 1985 300D/300SD Federal style higher stall speed 2600 rpm torque converter.

The neutral safety switch wiring harness will be different and will need to be reworked to fit the 722.3. If your going to use a 722.315, you will need to get a tail housing off a 722.303 to be able to use the 300SD electronic speedometer.

I created this thread to find a 722.303 transmission for myself. Could you create your own topic? Thanks.

Do you have a 722.303 That you would like to sell? I'd like to buy one too. Looks like you're local.

PM me and you can tell me how much and what part of town you're in.

Thanks!
