1988 300e Intermitent stalling

Well its not really intermittently. You can start it up from cold with no problems and let it idle or drive it but so far the last two times the car will die after 10 minutes of driving and will not restart. If you let the car sit for at least 2 hours it will then restart with no problem. It is still early in the diag phase so I dont have much else to go on. Vapor lock?

I have been also having a stalling problem on a w124. Ive done a few searches and it sounds to me like a fuel pump relay based on what I have read. Hope you and I get the problem resolved soon.

Well I ordered a new fuel pump relay and OVP relay just to try them out, it was 150 bucks but once I have it installed I will see if I still have the problem.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm going to replace my fuel filter this afternoon and see what happens. Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

Ok well the car didnt stall after ORDERING the parts. So I got the parts and installed it and the car seems to idle better and so far have not had the problem in 3 days. I guess I will never know if this was the solution or not unless the car stalls out again. I will post back if the car does stall out again though.

I wish you had better closer but if its running than its running, and thats good. My fuel filter wasnt plugged but the fuel pump is making terrible nioses I have reason to believe that it is siezed. Hopefully I will gett a new one in and have the problem resolved friday. Im thniking about dropping the tank and cleaning it out but I really dont want to.

My fuel pump was also making noises and here is my theory. If the fuel pump relay was starting to cause there to be higher than normal resistance then less voltage would be getting to the pump which would decrease its output and potentially cause it to whine. My fiance has noted that immediately after the new relays were installed she noticed better drivabillity. Perhaps due to better fuel pressure/volume? Maybe?

I did question if this was the problem. If it misses seeing the crank position then it will most likely kill the fuel pump or ignition or both. Not sure how Mercedes are controlled in this regard. The thing is it will only happen after driving. Never off cold startup in the morning etc.

AHHH, omg I believe I fixed the problem although it wasnt the front crank sensor as that isnt even connected to anything. It is purely a diagnostic thing. THE PROBLEM FOR ME WAS THE CAP AND ROTOR!. The rotor that was on the car was not a bosch part and was old. Problem hasnt come back in 10 days now. I realized that I had fixed the exact same problem on a jetta 10 years ago with a rotor replacement. Same problem. intermitent stall after driving. no start but would restart after cooling down.
