1985 300TD Transmission 722.315 $100
This is the automatic transmission form my '85 300TD project. The car came with records indicating a transmission rebuild about 12 years and 50 thousand miles ago. The car was supposedly parked before I bought it because of a transmission problem and there was a metal on metal sound coming from the transmission when the car was running. Once I sorted the vacuum out, the car seemed to drive and shift well on the few test rides I did around my neighborhood. I was suspecting a front pump problem, but when I finally pulled the transmission, I saw evidence of a much more superficial problem. One of the tabs on the flex plate was broken and there was quite a bit of scoring on the inside of the bell housing as if something had been flung around the inside of it and I suspect that this was leading to the sound I had heard. The car had an engine swap about 6000 miles before it was parked and I think someone involved in the swap left something in the bell housing that caused the problem. I was in the process of cleaning up the transmission to reinstall it in the car when I came across a great deal on the parts I need for a manual transmission swap. I say all of this in the interest of full disclosure. You can see pictures of the transmission at:

I also have a new (never opened) transmission filter and pan gasket that I will throw in at no extra cost with the transmission.

I'm interested. Do you ever drive anywhere near SE Virginia? If not, do you mind getting a shipping quote to 23669?
