Cleaned/Lubricated Starter For W110 200D
[SIZE=2][FONT=Arial]This starter was removed from my ex-daily driver 1968 W110 chassis 200D fintail sedan. Before the floors fell out of the car, I went through every mechanical component of the vehicle to make sure that it would be a reliable commuter and function year-round without trouble. Part of this preventative maintenance was going to be rebuilding the starter.
I took apart the starter with the intention of replacing the brushes, but they were in great condition with hardly any wear, so I carefully cleaned the surfaces with electrical cleaner, an abrasive cloth, and lubricated all of the moving parts with Mobil1 synthetic grease. Even the solenoid came apart for cleaning and greasing. The starter has functioned for me year-round without trouble. I believe it has many, many more starts left on it without any needed servicing. This starter fits the OelMotor 621 4 cylinder diesel engines found in the 1961-1968 fintail chassis 190D and 200D. I'm not sure if it fits the earlier 190D pontons or the later W115 220D. It won't fit the W123 240D or 300D because of the tooth count on the flywheel gear. $100 buy-it-now or possible trade for W110/W111 fintail/Universal parts or W116/300SD parts.
