FS: 1984 300TD amercian wagon part out

I may be jumping the gun a little, but needed to spark interest and get the contacts flowing.

Next weekend I will be towing home (b/c brakes are soft) a 1984 300TD w123 turbo diesel, north american (southern) wagon for future parts.

Send PMs now and stake your claim.

Shows 245,xxx on the odo but not confirmed if still operable yet.

It does runs well! and shifts normal, the first few gears anyway. I will test drive faster at home.
Working Tactometer!

Burgundy exterior: front fenders very clean, Rear doors good and I could not find any rust on the HATCH!
Front doors usual rusty lip on bottom corner, but I have better ones from my sedans.

Palomino interior complete and fair to good. 40/60 split rear, no rear headrests or third row though. Good fronts, driver has seam splits.
Super headliner, now I have 2 sets of hatch trim.

Roofrack with crossbars!

Engine trans package for sale too; prefer you remove yourself for now.

Pics coming soon as I unload it
Make fair offers and send detailed lists,
pickup encouraged but shipping available.

This also means my 240d will be stripped down for the crusher = firesale on sedan parts

If it's a good runner why part it out?

If you are still going to part it out, I'm in need of lots of things...

Hey Stephen,
Is this the one from Raleigh? I might be interested in some of the interior. Will this be the body donor you have been looking for? I just got done putting the transmission I got from you back together tonight. Things always take longer than I plan... Good luck on the new acquisition. Let me know if you need a hand.

Disgo: I need you to venture down here anytime you are free and help me re-evaluate these wagons. Unfortunately I do NOT think I have the body donor I need yet.
But I am ready to get your headlight wipers off when you arrive!

Lacolocho, and others: this wagon has title issues and some wierd history. I will have to give it a good inspection before I determine sellable condition of everything, but it also has some floor rust and a couple of deep gashes in the driver rear body section.

Driver side fender trims are all gone, but fortunately the windows and doors are all intact.

It could be a driver, but not worthy of restoration. I will try to get other opinions before we dismantle it. Still I'd like to line-up interested part buyers to help support a MAJOR restoration needed for my euro wagon (No floors anymore!).

Final decision not made; at a minimun this wagon will help support alot of others on the road!

PO claim: New axles! also note paint has expected clearcoat peeling

Cool, here's what I'm most in need of:

-Reverse light lens
-Hatch strut rear bolts (and struts if they're in good shape)
-Assorted sunroof parts (if it has one)

I'm in Oregon so would need them shipped. There are some other non-wagon-specific parts that I need. I could just as easily find them up here but if you're sending me stuff already and can give me a good deal on the other things then I might want them.

so I have an honest and interesting question for you wagon owners:

How do we determine a "good" set of used wagon hatch struts?

Do you test on level ground to see if they hold, tail end downhill and in a wind storm,
or prop it with a stick and wait to see if it breaks the stick down (like most of my previous wagons

Also, what is up with various sized star shaped inverted bolts that hold the struts in?
I couldn't find sockets like that anywhere for my euro wagons' bolts! and they are tighter than a tick's ---
Now my last federal had regular sized allen-head bolts; hope this one does too.

I am keeping a list of the names and parts requests. Hope to get the wagon home a little sooner, but within a week at most

For me, cheap and functional is more important

I'm hoping they are too! One of my bolts got pretty rounded pulling it out, and the other is still in there..

I have a list going of everybody's requests in order (no overlaps yet anyway) and will confirm with PM as soon as I have pics and condition details ready!

lacolocho: what sunroof parts do you need?
The wagon IS a manual. I am about to pull the working electric roof out of my 240d too

USARover: I am just about 1 hour from Greensboro, and visit there often.

Tram: I already have a tested working rear wiper unit from a hatch I bought earlier!
What do you mean by "/ transmission"? Part of the wiper unit?
or the actual drive train? Is there unique sizing to a wagon trans?

I have a tested 1984 sedan transmission w 224k out on a pallet already to go!

I'm converting an electric to a manual, so it's kind of a laundry list... If the sunroof wasn't so damned heavy I'd say ship it to me.
I had to replace my orig. sunroof because it was so rusty and had to put an electric one in because it was all I could find at the time. It's just propped up in there.
There's a conversion guide here:
PeachPartsWiki: Sunroof Conversion - Power to Manual
But mine is a little simpler since I don't need to do much of the stuff that was in the car. I think it's just all the parts in that first photo.

So, I don't know. Maybe this looks like a big PITA for you and I should hold out for one locally where I can just pull the whole thing... Let me know what you think
Either way, I definitely need the side rails and felt seals if they're in good shape.

Not worth restoring, right?

Get her home. Drives out fairly good.
Strong engine with 246k and counting; started right up near freezing morning and ran well but turbo not kicking in. I know vacuum isn't right to start at cutoff and locks too.

Shifts smooth and high (working Tach!)

PO claims to paid for transmission and engine rebuilds within his last 10years of owning. Has sat most of last year and records are lost.
Discounts for anyone who can help pull their own parts, esp drive train.

Hatch is nearly rust free except little surface bubbling along inside bottom edge, driver side.
Rear doors untouched. Passenger is nearly rust free!

lacolocho: I will have to get back to you about pulling everything for a manual sunroof conversion...

so start with these pics and help me confirm that the body damage to driver rear panel and rust is too much to be worth restoring???

This is the body damage. The jackpoints and floors are fairly rusty (my run of luck with wagons ) too.

Now some of the good....

PM with more requests, price offers help and your email addresses for specific pictures

Also, look at the engine and the large blue vacuum regulator driverside; this is supposedly a 1984. Isn't that a sign of 85 system, or maybe this was a late production in the model year 84

Crossbars have a sale pending.

Antenna is halfway down, think that means the cable mast is broke as usual?

[QUOTE]

I have seen one or two posts in the past that indicated some model year 84 cars had that setup as well.

What sort of shape is the cargo area carpeting, side panels and plastic trim (example, around the hatch opening) in? Could you take a pic or two for me?

Thanks
