Wanted: 380/W126 Exhaust Info
I would appreciate pictures, drawings, or verifiable descriptions of US SPEC '81-'83 380 SE/SEL (W126) exhaust manifolds. I have an old aftermarket exhaust parts catalog that indicates the possibility of rear exit logs with the crossover pipe being under the trans. Although there is much talk on various forums about "Euro" manifolds, I have yet to see any information (especially pics) of the earliest US M116/W126 manifolds.
Any info on this matter would be appreciated. Frank |

Euro Exhaust Manifolds called Euro Logs exit on each side behind the heads, there are down pipes that bolt there and go down both sides along the transmission, then bend to the center of the car behind the transmission, ideally 4 inches apart, these then matched up with the Euro exhaust pipes that went into the two "Kidney " Resonators with two pipes exiting the resonators turning to the left side of the car and entering the OEM MB muffler.
NONE of the US cars had the crossover under the engine or transmission when they left the factory, the US versions all had the Crossover pipe behind the heads. 116 and 117 Euro Logs are different and will not interchange. Any of the cross over under the engine or Transmission were done to incorporate the One in/out Cat (1 only) those are a complete aberration.
