1982 240TD wagon for parts - Please Read!

Wagon was in the process of being refurbished (approx. 90% complete). Was crushed by a huge tree this past Friday. It had a brand new paint job (classic white), and excellent cloth blue interior. Has the third row jump seat. Euro bumpers, white hub caps, 2.4 liter NA engine with a 4-speed manual runs beautifully (approx. 240K). No leaks, no excessive oil burning. All suspension, mechanical, electrical systems, SLS, serviced and in excellent working order. Brand new michelin tires with zero miles on them. I should have some pictures soon so you can see the extent of the damage. I have $5K invested in the car. Looking to recover some costs. Let me know if you are interested in parts of the entire car.

SO SAD

Probably the saddest story I've read... :cry2: :bigcry:

I believe the pics need to be resized...but I almost don't want to see them. It will make me all emotional :(

Yes, VERY sorry to hear about this. Especially for a 240TD, very rare. I'd love to have the new tires, but not worth shipping with the price...

I hope you re-coupe as much as you can. If I can help you in any way going forward with anything else, let me know

or I guess in this case it would be re-TD

And I have never heard of a 240TD... Hope you recover as much as possible :)

Replied via e-mail, and very sorry for your loss. Sounds like a major bummer. :(

The embedded pictures were not working. Follow this link. There is a car under the tree. Sad, but true.

Ouch. I'm not see much to salvage there.

Holy *#^$!!! That's a big tree! I at first thought "well just weld on a new roof and maybe a hood or fender", but damn. I'm really, really sorry to see this. :( I hate to know what your reaction must have been upon initially seeing this.

I'm near you though, would be happy to buy the tires/wheels and rear differential in a couple weeks and possibly the engine+transmission too. My euro 200D engine suffered some catastrophe recently, and I'm not yet sure what sort of cost I'm going to be facing to repair it, although that's what I hope to manage. It might make sense to drop a 240 into it. I'm definitely not giving up that chassis/interior to a scrapyard.

I will let you know when the tree is removed and when we can assess what is good and start removing parts.

This is a very sad event. I'm sorry for your loss

Need RR Window Reg

Greetings,

Need right rear window regular (and possibly motor) for '80 300td.

Also rear self leveling valve.

Thanks,

Bill

Any progress as of yet? No rush - I'm going to be tied up for the next couple weeks - driving a car back from California...

NCfriend 07-15-2012 10:39 PM

I never heard back from you are parts' prices??
Same here, no rush

I could donate a decent shell, but not likely worth the effort to swap into...

Tree was finally removed. I should have more pictures this week. We need to assess what can be salvaged. I will have a parts price list soon, too.
