I noticed I looked up the completely wrong part number to get that $68 price too. I think it's great that MB lets you order a non North America parts in North America. I ordered some shift linkages for a 4 speed 300D which should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully I choose the right part numbers.

That usually means that parts fit something else. For some parts MB will ask you to show a registration to the car to prove it is registered in the US, they don't want you buying and exporting parts. For a euro G500 and a 190E I had to prove I had the cars here in the states to get some entirely specific parts.

exactly right. the 68 dollar one looks similar but it is for a 240D auto and it is 4 inches too narrow, I bought that one if you want one.. They would not sell the 300d 5spd crossmember to me here in US, I was fortunate that a member in Europe got it and mailed it to me. part is sold, likely the only new one in North America.
