SoCal: W124 E320 5 speed / manual transmission wanted

Hello, my reverse gear has been slipping for a while now and I was quoted around $1200 - $1500 to rebuild it. I figured it might be better if I get a 5 speed swap rather than rebuilding the 4 speed automatic. I will need all associated parts with it. Please let me know if you have one or you know someone who has one. Thanks a lot.

190 Revolution

Note the flywheel, dunno how the m104 timing goes but I'm pretty sure a 4-cylinder flywheel won't have have the right timing. Most of the other pieces do though.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. I will keep it in mind.

I have two 5 speeds

I have two five speed set ups for the m104. I have a standard five speed out of a 1986 300e (it's an over drive) and I have a Getrag 5 speed out of a 16 valve

I'm unaffiliated with this posting on benzworld.org, but apparently the guy has a 5 speed in a wreck, up around San Fransisco that he is trying to sell off. Same state, but a long ways, I it helps.

Thanks a lot for the link. I already talked to him actually but it is around 8 -9 hours, each way, from where I live and he is selling the whole car. I have to make a trip up there, have the transmission pull out of the car and drive back. If it was already pulled out and ready go I would have already bought that :(

Price and location would be great.

Still looking. Thanks.

Zebani, Regardless of who you buy a tranny from, go 5 speed manual.
Like I said, I have 2 of them. one is a 5 speed overdrive and the other is the getrag. I would suggest the 5 speed overdrive if you want a good gas mileage transmission. I have one in an e320 coupe and it does 75 while only reving at 1800 rpms, I noticed some gas savings.

As I said earlier, 700 for the 5 speed over drive and 900 for the getrag. I think is is a fair deal, as just the flywheel cost me $220 dollars.

Buyer pays shipping. I would guess no more than $170.

for $200 more I will sell the drive shafts (they are rusty but in working order). Hard to find.

If your car is an M104 powered e320 you will have a difficult time changing the wiring to accommodate the manual transmission flywheel and transmission.

If its 95 or older just leave the auto transmission wires disconnected, jumper the neutral safety switch, run new wires to your new reverse switch on the shifter. The magnet for the throttle position sensor can be removed from the ring gear, drilled and epoxied into the manual's flywheel at the appropiate location. Best is to buy the whole car the manaul is coming out of so that you get all the bits anda trinkets that you need. The trans exhaust bracket is different, as is the wood console. Enjoy the swap, it makes it a different car.
