W108 280S and 280SE parts
I already posted this over in the Vintage section, and on BenzWorld; they are sitting in a metal salvage yard near Chehalis, Washington and will absolutely, positively be crushed tomorrow before sundown --I'll have about eight hours to pull from them. It is not a strip lot, just a metal salvage operation with no room to hold cars. All they do is buy 'em for cheap, bring 'em in, crush 'em, and haul the cubes to a recycler in Tacoma. The only reason they weren't crushed by 6 PM last Saturday is, I happened to be standing in the driveway at 5 PM --I had just visited the business next door, and didn't even know this place was there!-- when the wrecker turned in carrying them. So, curious, I followed it in, and pleaded with the owner to wait til Monday night to flatten them.
Parts requested so far that have "dibs" on them: cold start valve from 280SE injection pump thermostat element housing from 280SE hood star (seems a shame, as the entire grille is all there and gorgeous, not a dent on it) hold-down pegs beneath rear seat cushion (seems a shame, as the dark dull red seats are all there and are in great condition, not a single tear) hub caps tool roll left and right rear tail lights, chrome surrounds and lenses Boge hydro pneumatic compensator front interior dome light right rear bumper overrider injection pump from the 280SE (yes, I know, there is a conflict here, it will have to be resolved somehow) fog lamps fuel pump from the 280SE. I have been told the following are worth saving, but nobody has specifically claimed them yet (note: I am not a W108 guy, I own W123's): owner manuals headlight surrounds headlamps if not sealed beam wood dash bow distributor and ignition control box from the 280S Zenith carburetors from the 280S oil cooler from the 280SE cam shafts and rockers –mark rockers, check cam for wear fuel distributor from the 280SE injectors and injector lines from 280SE There was also a request to check between cylinders 3 and 4 for compression ratio, 9.5 9.0 or 8.0, but it seems to me there's no point in doing so. The car will be gone before the information could do any good. Obviously I doubt I'll have time to pull the camshaft, and the hydropneumatic compensator is doubtful. I may have to be regrettably selective about what I go after (but, I do have the necessary large socket and grandma wrench to pull the injectors, and a 12 mm deep socket to get the valve cover off to get the carburetors). But if there are any other parts I can take for you within the 8-hour time window before they get transformed into beer cans, speak now or... Last edited by JustPassinThru; 04-16-2012 at 01:46 AM. |
