Anyone have a set of snow tires?
Made it up to PA only to realize that my tires are not so great in the snow/ice. However I'm only up here until May so I don't really want to invest in a new set of snow shoes. Apparently winters are awful up here, so I don't want to take any chance. I'd even consider a set of all seasons so long as they do decently in snow/ice.
Preferably looking for 195/65/15's. Located in Sunbury, PA. |

A new set of decent all season radials on the rear only will do wonders for traction. Sudbury is not one of those freaky places that gets like 7' of snow is it? With a wagon you should have great traction in snow. With old tires on the front turning will be a little dicey but if you are judicious you should be able to get by. I suggest Kuhmo or Hancook for lower cost tires. Michelin is hard to beat for good traction and long life but they cost a bit more.

The whole reason I brought up the wagon was because of weight and ASR, the tires on currently are not very good on anything but dry ground. Replied |

My local, Indianapolis, CL has a set of nearly new tires mounted in 15 hole w124 wheels for $300. If I remember correctly, there are five wheels and tires.
EDIT: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/pts/3510942372.html The five wheels was something else.. now down to $250

Would be awesome if they were closer or if those wheels would fit on the E320 =[

Pretty sure that the 15 hole wheels will not clear the larger front calipers on the E320 wagon.

195/65 15s is one of the most common sizes out there. Have you looked online say eBay? Personally I'd run them on all four especially if you're not used to driving in snow. Not sure what your deductible is but I bet more than a used full set of snows.
As an example. We had 12" fall here on boxing day. My wifes New Beetle TDI with Blizzaks was able to drive up our driving incline BEFORE I plowed. I hadn't put the snows yet on the Jetta TDI so I plowed first. It got stuck going down the incline (realized after I had a stuck rear brake caliper) but still going down hill with good quality 80% or better all seasons. If you had mentioned 14"s I have several good used sets of winters. No spare 15s though. Sorry.

Those Blizzaks are the same ones I had studded a few years ago.. No stopping those things, if you can deal with the "popcorn" noise on pavement.
I wouldn't stud tires again, not enough snow on the ground. I would, however, get a set of chains and keep them in the car for emergencies.

I recommend a set of General Altimax Arctics. I've got a set for my 190E (185/65/15) and a set for my 300D (195/65/15). Excellent tire for these cars and they are pretty cheap at $77/each.

So you need the 8-holes (15 x 6.5?) in stock size (195/65/15) w/ snows?

I'll agree that a good set of snow tires will last a long time. My grandmother was still using a pair after TEN years... finally got her to stop getting them put on every year.
