2 cv-axles from a 1985 Mercedes 300D. They have about 145k miles on them and are in excellent working order. In the picture, I removed the boots and packed the joints with grease on the axle on the top. Additionally I put some gasket sealant on the aging boots to see what the result would be. The axle on the bottom retains the original oil.

I suggest rebooting them or packing the axle without grease with grease, so that when the boot tears it is a non issue.
