Feeler: looking for an engine
I have a very bad feeling that I may be needing a new engine soon for my 240D so I'm looking to see if anyone has either a known good running OM616 engine or a OM617A with transmission for sale in the mid Atlantic / NE part of the country. I'm not 100% sure if I will need one yet but trying to keep my options open.

I may. A lot depends on what I find when I tear into a few things next weekend. I'll let you know.

I have an OM617a + auto tranny. I'm down in Asheville, NC. Didn't know if that might be too far, but worth a shot!

Well I'm not ready to say the engine is dead yet. I'm going to take a look at the bearings this weekend or next and see what I see. Hopefully the crank is okay. If not then I will need a new engine and I will most likely go with a turbo. Thanks for the offers so far.

I may consider selling the engine from my 83 300D turbo if I can't sell it locally as a whole car. The engine runs fantastic. The advantage is you can drive mine before buying. I'd suggest not going with a junkyard engine not knowing beforehand if all that labor swapping engine is wasted or not.
