Beware seller Andyb

I had the unfortunate opportunity to buy some used parts from this guy and it has turned out badly so I just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone is considering dealing with this guy.

I placed a WTB on this site for 2 transmission oil lines and a bowden cable from the non '85 transmission. Andy answers and we agree on $50 plus $20 shipping, so $70 total. I promptly pay with Paypal and a week later I get a package with a bowden cable and 2 wrong oil lines. I called him and re-explained what I needed and he said "I just grabbed 2 lines out of a box, sorry." I guess I just should have said "send me random parts and I'll tell you if they are right.".

Anyway, I sent the 2 lines back and about another week goes by and he says he only has one line and one cut line. I don't really want to buy pre broken parts, so I said just refund me for the oil lines and I'll keep the cable. Ok he says, I'll give you $10 back. What!? I think $40 back is fair since the oil lines are the expensive parts.

After some arguing the most he will refund is $20. I find this unacceptable so I tell him I will ship his cable back at my expense, he can keep his $20 shipping, and I just want $50 back and we can pretend this never happened. Nope he says, he doesn't want it back. So now he refuses to take his own parts back!

My only recourse was to file a claim with Paypal. I am sharing this so hopefully you guys don't have to go through something like this.

Let PayPal sort it all out. That is part of their job. Get all your money back.

I agree. That's why you use paypal for MERCHANDISE and not for gifting money for purchases. Your obligation is to return the parts with tracking, his obligation is to refund your money. Step one is to open a dispute with paypal. That freezes his money (if that's all he has in his paypal account). Don't mess with the seller, just open the claim.
