Parting '79 300SD

Well, my '79 is finally being pulled from service. I knew it would happen, but it's sad just the same. Poor old veteran will gimp about on four cylinders but there's a problem in the lower end and it's just not worth repairing. I'm willing to pull some parts off this car for reasonable prices and ship them out provided you're patient and understand that my spare time is limited. So please consider the time it takes to remove, box, and ship a particular part when considering what it's worth to you.

I'll gladly take pictures. The interior was very rough. The instrument cluster worked with the exception of the odometer which shows 234,000 miles. Some of the windows operated. Almost all A/C and cruise parts under the hood are missing. HVAC system was not 100% functional.

The car came with recently replaced Bosch injectors but I have no idea where they were sourced. The glow plug system works correctly. The charging system works correctly. The vacuum pump works and doesn't make excessive noise. The radiator may not be the best but it doesn't leak and the fins are good so it may be a candidate for cleaning. The car was running when it died so most of the primary mechanical parts under the hood are expected to be decent.

I don't have a lift at the house and I'm not really planning to pull suspension parts. If you need something badly enough, or if enough requests are made, I might trailer the car to the shop and remove a few items. My intention is to put the car on the trailer and send it for scrap before the end of August so wheels and other large suspension components will be the last items to go.

Hope there are some items people can use. I hate sending good parts to scrap only to find someone who needed them shortly after but on the flip side, the local scrap yard offered $500 for the car and I don't even have to pull the fluids.

Manifolds? Do they have the EGR port or none?

And would you consider selling them apart from the engine?

Manifolds are EGR type. You're looking for both intake and exhaust? I'd sell them separately.

Actually, I have a set from an '82 if they're the same. The EGR port on the exhaust manifold is welded shut.

I'm pulling items off the car right now. Is the radio worth anything? It's a Becker unit with working seek function? Maybe it's not a big deal though. Like everything else on the car, the radios were probably built to withstand a zombie horde.

Yes, the Becker is worth something! Don't throw it out. Even one that isn't working can be repaired or used for parts. It helps to include as much of the wire harness as possible.

Ok, well then I'll save it. I guess I'll place it next to the original radio from my '82.

Yes, it's fairly rusty. Something specific you're thinking of?

Sorry, I think that's going to be a gamble. It's a big job to try and do at the house and I don't know how well the head survived being overheated.

Just wondering if it would be worth it to drop in another engine, since I have one and live relatively close to you, but it sounds like the answer is no.

I would say no. I wasn't sure that I'd be able to get it through state inspection this month, and I'm an inspector.

Where are you located? I need the W116-specific upper oil pan from the engine, and also a spare lower would be good too. What colors? Pictures would be great. Also interested in the radio.

I'm in central NH. The car's gold w/ tan interior. Sorry, I don't know MB color names.

Radio's no problem. I really can't commit to big jobs like the oil pans or cylinder head though. I'd love to help but I've just got too much going on and too little equipment at the house to get those jobs done in the time available.
