Car SOLD 12/15/2013

I just bought a 1973 (really 1972) 280 SEL 4.5 because it has parts I want off of it. My intention was to get the radio and rear reading lights and a few other things and then take it to the junkyard. Seller said it didn't have brakes and only shifted into 1st gear. As it turns out, the brakes work and leak and pull to the left so I suspect the right front caliper, and the transmission shifts correctly through all three forward gears. I had it up to 75 for a 28 mile drive home. It does NOT shift into reverse, which I understand from Sun Valley Mercedes is a $250 fix.

The car is a major cosmetic fixer. LOTS of surface rust but it appears not to have the typical rust on the doors, rockers, under windshields, trunk floor. What it seems is that it has gobs of surface rust on the hood, roof, and trunk lids.

So the car is better than I was expecting. I'm wondering if should take a few things that I want and then drive it to the junkyard and get $500 for it, or if others want the engine/transmission. The engine pulls strong and has good oil pressure. The transmission shifts well (except no reverse). I know that there is also some interest in the rear axle of the car due to the gear ratio.

So is there interest on the forum of buying any of the big items that would prevent me from junking it?
