300 TD rear shocks?
 

I just acquired an 82 TD, and I want to "entertain" putting the SLS rear shocks back on it. It still has the chambers installed, but it has conventional shocks installed on the rears. Doesn't appear that anyone bothered to change the stock springs out, because it sits down in the rear. Does anyone out there have decent SLS shocks they've taken off? Also, is there a test I can do to check the chambers before connecting everything back up?

If the chambers weren't sealed, I'd be worried that the membrane inside is shot. Also, working on the system is time consuming (but worth it). If you're interested in taking it back to stock, it's worth it to get new SLS actuators.

Do it once, do it right. I know it's expensive, but when working well and done to last, it can be a great suspension.

+1 on new accumulators. Any prolonged exposure to the elements will only hasten their failure if they even work to begin with. As to your question, inserting a blunt rod-like instrument into the open end of each sphere and getting minimal depth indicates the diaphragm is intact. Determining integrity is gonna be more difficult. These are still inexpensive enough not to replace with new.

OTOH, new hydraulic rams (no longer on your wagon) are pricey. Unless you're looking to spend tall dough, look for a pair at the wrecker and be prepared to rebuild them. Highly unlikely you'll find them in serviceable condition at the jy and just as unlikely you'll find them cheap enough from a private seller.

Also, beforehand, confirm no alterations were made at the mount points. Pretty sure the SLS struts mount differently than gas shocks. Could save you some time.
