Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows of a reliable W124 illuminated door sill source that the sills aren't junk. The dealer wants over $1,000 for complete setup of the door sills and the parts. Anyone know of one?

I see them on ebay a lot. i have some, but I want to know how to make them red. If you help me do that, Ill find you some.

I believe thede door sill plates are electroluminessant. Switching to red or actually orange (closest you can get) is a little tricky but not impossible. An EL is a plastic laminated phosphor materal that glows when electric current is applied. Very few companys make these and the wholesale/retail market is small due to the fact that everyone is customized. I can try looking in a few lelectronics catalogs for you but i doubt ill find anything.
Next best thin is just place some red filters between the EL and the cutout and instead of blue/green youll get a little less bright red!

I remember waaaay back in high school science class, looking at different bulbs that glowed different colors.

The color of the light was dependent on the gas inside the bulb. Different gasses burned different colors.

I wonder if that has anything to do with it...

Just like the sky being blue. It's the shortest wave length, and the last to be absorbed.

Also, E-bay seems to be the cheapest place to buy these door sills. I've monitores several auctions and a set of four usually goes for $220-ish.

They only make color you see that site above.

I've never seen actual sills yet.
But you might chage light-bulb or plate to
make it different color. ???????
