Can you please find or send instructions on how the tow bar is supposed to attach? I acquired euro bumpers and took the lot to a Benz guy who's working on my car, and he can't figure out how the 2 smaller pieces attach to the main tow bar and can't see how the tow bar and the bumper fit together...

Anybody else have a hitch like this and can offer advice? Am I missing some required parts like brackets on the ends to attach the bumper skin to?

If he can't figure it out, then you need a new guy working on your car.

Look at this picture, then look at the bumper. Problem solved.

Attaching the tow bar to the car with the 6 bolts is not the question - the questions are how the other two metal bars attach, and how the bumper attaches over the tow bar. Looking at other sites, it appears some hitches have brackets on the ends of the tow bar for the bumper "skin" to attach to, and the tow bar replaces the reinforcement that's usually in the bumper. I have what's pictured above (and the two thinner bars are not attached in any way to the bigger tow bar) - are there brackets missing? I don't even see where to attach them.

EDIT: My bad - he figured out the 2 smaller bars which provide an additional attachment point for the hitch apparently. So now the question is simply how the bumper attaches to this tow bar, and if there are missing bracket pieces.

Also, other tow bars I've been able to find pictures of don't look like this one - they are usually a square bar, and have brackets for attaching the bumper, like this rusty one on eBay:

the euro wagons that had these had factory holes drilled in the inside of the unitbody rails-on the outer sides. I saw one once, ask the forum if someone can make templates-(out of tin foil).
you then would pull the upholstery covering each side rear well and use the templates to drill the holes.

as far as weather the tow bar is sandwitched between the body and bumper brackets--or weather the towbar is installed last over the bumper brackets, I cant tell you but I think its the former.

Holes for what? How does that help in attaching the bumper to the tow bar?

P.S. Do you happen to still have the wiring harness available?

your first-last question, the 4 bolt holes for the arm brackets that go thru those rear unitbody holes into the inside of the channel rails.

you bolt the arms to the tow bar first-slip the assembly into-on the car, bolt up the inside arms after drilling the inner holes then the bumper goes on last.

I don't believe so, I have a bunch of harness pieces but they are mostly pruned Glow plug relay stuff

Yep, this is the part I have figured out. Actually the holes along the unibody frame rail are there already. Good old MB plans for all possibilities!

What I can't tell yet is how the bumper skin fits over the hitch because with its stock reinforcement bar in place it doesn't seem to fit, unless I'm missing something.

From what I can tell, I need #40 in this diagram (no PN listed/NLA or only part of kit).
