For sale: 1993 400e - complete but bad transmission. Central OH area.

Repost here from several weeks ago - a couple PMs, but no takers. This was a daily driver until the transmission failed a few months ago. Very good condition otherwise. Hoping to find someone who could use this as a donor car or would be willing to have the trans rebuilt. No rust, no accidents, repainted in 2015. Not perfect, but clean, everything works, engine runs strong. ~235k miles. So, if someone could spare her from the junkyard, she'd love a new lease on life. PM me if interested.

It could probably be driven/delivered locally as the trans is just slipping at this point. More pics available, I'd take $800, but make an offer!

Have you changed the trans filter? Mine slipped while on vacation 600 miles from home. After she warmed up, she ran better. Got home changed trans filter and haven't had any slippage since.

Unhappy

Last time I drove it, it was clunking/grinding/lurching (especially from a dead stop), although it was fine once I got it on the freeway. I could try a trans fluid & filter change, but I'm guessing that would be too little too late in this case.

I'm close and I love the color.. What kind of manual options are there for the trans, I wonder?

I'm no expert on flavors of suitable Benz transmissions or alternate makes for retrofit, but a manual transmission conversion would likely be quite an ordeal. Probably much more difficult and expensive than rebuilding or replacing the automatic.
