2:47 Differential For sale for W123

2:47 Differential for Sale; CONVERTED for W123. Has the correct yoke installed; has new funky nut; has brand new seals (MB / OEM Seals) installed.

$400 FIRM plus shipping and PayPal fees. This is less than what I got invested in it.

Someone contacted me a few days ago about this and I just remembered someone pinged me about a month ago wanting a few pictures. So, my bad--here you go.

Here are either MB Dealer seals or OEM where I believe MB are NLA. Includes a pristine yoke for W123 conversion. This is pretty much a direct bolt in swap less seals and yoke which you should probably replace the seals anyways while it is out of the car. Plus, with the seals, that is probably something the new owner would want to do anyways.

I will post some more snappies shortly. Raining this AM.

The price is firm at $400 plus whatever shipping is and PP fees. I am thinking Greyhound is the way to go. This thing is heavy.

I got way more than $400 invested in this. I had a different forum member tell me these are a dime a dozen in Europe although I have only seen a few of these over the last decade.

I'm selling because as noted in other threads, I am just down to one project and selling off all my extra parts .... my driving habits are a lot less these days.

So the w123 axles bolt on? I have the set up that uses the 6 bolts to hold axles to a flange that allows the axles to be swapped with out dropping and taking apart the differential

Yes, of course; however, there are 2 different types or styles of rear axles. SO TAKE NOTE. The ANNULAR type may NOT fit. I have a 2:65 LSD differential and those 6 bolts hit or interfere so I use the original style with the cans at the end and they fit just fine. I believe they have 2 different names they go by, one is homokinetic and I forgot the other name. I do not know if the annular type of ends will interfere or hit the bolts on my 2:47 for sale. You can of course do some machining so the annular type work.

Any 2:47 or 2:47 LSD Actual Experience

Differential Swap

However, before the zillion questions role in -- the original style of rear axles which have a can at the end work just fine without zero machining or moding. Like any other time you replace or swap a rear axle, make sure to use the correct shim and use a new "C" clip.

Before putting in a 2:65 LSD (or 2:47 differential) in my car years ago I did some research over on STD. It's been done a number of times without any mods or other issues. I have personally done it and I can tell you the annular type of axles will not bolt onto a 2:65 as the outter bolts hit the 6-bolt hub you mention. I love my 2:65 LSD. Works great and that's staying with Red. Lots and lots of "experts" said the gears were too tall and the car would run lopey or sluggish, et cet. I guess they were guessing about how the car would run since it ran great. I cannot wait to finish up my engine-tranny deal to get my car back on the road shortly.

bump ... I'm planning on dropping off some parts at the machine shop for cleaning. I might have room in the basket for this too. If so, it will be cleaned up and pictured as "clean."

Hi, Umm, won't this diff ratio be too low ?

I live in a hilly area, and have the 300D turbo and 4 speed manual transmission and with a 3.58 differential. I want to go lower, but i feel accelleration won't be any good and will struggle to get up any hills

Hi umm why would you say this? Any umm actual experience? I was told the same thing with a umm 2:65 diff with a OM617.912 with 5 speed manual and it’s a great combination. So those folks who offered their umm expertise on the combination were wrong. Makes me wonder about such umm-opinion?

I expect great fuel mileage on the highway from my 2:47 gear.

As noted above, I got ahead of myself and never did the swap. The day I was supposed to do this I got side tracked. I have posted that above, and again now since I have been pinged a handful of times on this.

Second, apologies to "Math" -- I did respond to your email but my response got parked in my outbox which doesnt normally happen. Still, my fault.

Third -- this is still for sale. Lots of folks pinged me but as noted above, and here again --

$400 firm plus PayPal fees and shipping. I have sold 100's of parts on the various forums so I will indeed find the cheapest shipping option. BUT, I have learned the hardway with a handful of asses on this forum and others that I need to get paid in advance to include an over-pay for shipping before I run around looking for shipping options. I always refund the shipping difference. Hard lesson has been finding parts for folks, getting the best shipping option, then the person simply disappears forever and all that time and effort is wasted. And yes, I am just liquadating what I have and no part flipping or yard huntiing for me. Being "semi-retired" now and I am more busy than ever.

I have all the stuff to replace the seals and yoke for a W123 diesel. All new parts, either Dealer MB parts or OEM where MB parts no longer exists. As for the yoke and seals, I will eat that postage since I insist on sending that stuff priority mail which is a smidge under $15.00. Keep in mind a minty yoke and MB dealer / OEM seals are worth over $200 alone.

This differential came from Charlie Lund who is a GREAT guy. Something this important would not have been bought from any forum member. I am selling it because I am down to just one car and only one car and all my other projects are being liquadated.

This differential came from a super low miles 1985 380SE, W126.032 / 116.963 also comes up.

This is a bolt in / drop in for a W123.

no worries

would i need to change the axles between the differential and the wheels if i grab this ? as it's a wider diff than the one that comes with my w123 as standard ?

going by this
https://mbturbo.com/gear-ratios/

it would be a 1.3 litres 210mm wide diff, and my w123 has a 1.1 litre 185mm wide differential

worried face/thoughts :'(
