Parting Out Euro-Spec 1980 Mercedes-Benz W116 280SE

I'm parting out a 1980 Mercedes-Benz W116 280SE. Milan Brown paint with Parchment velour interior. It has an interesting history. It was built to European specifications and driven for several years in Europe, so it got very rusty and then someone welded in some patch panels at some point, but it was only a band-aid repair.

It was imported through Florida in the 1980s, had air conditioning installed (kind of a hack job) and spent several years in Texas and Arizona, so it received some sun damage to the interior. It got a new paint job a few years ago but then someone apparently drove it off the road and through a bunch of bushes and trees, which damaged the body and messed up the steering, so the car was parked.

The car changed hands a few times and someone installed a new fuel pump trying to get the engine to run again, but it looks like they bent up one of the fuel lines in the process. The previous owner bought it for the Euro bumpers and sold me the rest of the car. I removed the entire manual climate control and wire harness and installed it in my 1980 W116 300SD.

Just let me know if there is something you are interested in, as I need to get this car stripped down and then sell it to a wrecking yard. I have already sold some parts, and am keeping others. The engine and transmission may be good, but I have no way of knowing for sure and don't want to mess around with testing them. I have the title and would be happy to sell the entire car minus the parts I'm keeping. I'm trying to let as little of this car go to waste as possible.

No longer available: Seats (except rear seat back), C-pillar trim, bumpers, window regulators, climate control.

Car is located in Surprise, Arizona, but I am willing to ship some things, MAYBE even the engine and transmission, but that's a whole lot of labor and hassle for parts I can't guarantee are in good working condition.

How about $80 plus shipping for the unit with the throttle plate and the hex-shaped piece with the fuel lines coming out of it, with the fuel lines themselves? Or do you only need the hex-shaped piece and lines?

The part is untested and the #6 fuel line is twisted at the injector.

I'm interested in the interior rearview mirror, as well as the sunvisors and associated clips that attach them to the roof. Would you let me know a price for those items?

The part number on the main unit is 0 438 120 032.

The part number on the upper piece is 0 438 100 084.

Most of the interior rear view mirror is in very nice condition.

The glass and mirror behind it are in very good condition as well, and are very clear. Unfortunately, the bezel cracked at the bottom middle due to heat, and some adhesive oozed out.

The mirror was very hard to remove from the roof, and the bracket pulled off with it. I ended up having to remove the spring so I could separate it from the mirror. The pins on each side of the spring were stuck, so I cleaned and lubricated them with silicone grease the put the spring back in. The mounting bracket that has the screws in it isn't very good. There is a punch mark in the center of the rubber covering from a screwdriver, but it may not be visible once the mirror is installed.

I'd like $20 plus shipping for the mirror.

The visors were painted with dye at one point, so while they blend in okay, they really should be dyed again so they look better. The clips are good except one was overtightened so it "blew apart" on the other side, but it should still be functional and the damage won't be visible. The mounting screws are included.

$20 for the visors and clips, as well, so $40 plus whatever shipping costs for everything. Thanks for the interest.

Re: Airflow meter & fuel distributor(FD)

Although both the 1980 and the 1984 systems are K-Jetronic, the 1980 type is generally know as K-Basic, and the 1984 type as K-Lambda. The 1984 system could be replaced with the 1980 one (air meter & FD together) but in doing so the O2 sensing and feedback for mixture control would be lost, as K-Basic does not have provision for feedback.

Control & adjustment are the same for both systems. K-Basic, since it lacks feedback, will not always operate with the mixture ratio at stochiometric. That can affect the operation and life of the catalytic converter.
Parts for six-cylinder K-Lambda can be found on Porsche 911, and Volvo V6s, 1980-85.

Clarification regarding the cylinder head. I do NOT want/need the fuel distributor, lines, air flap, fittings, etc. so if you want them they are available unless already sold..
