For Sale: W116 Manual And Automatic Climate Control Parts

I have a bunch of leftover climate control parts from when I converted the automatic climate control in my W116 300SD to manual.

Here is the first lot. This is a manual climate control assembly removed from an early (1974?) W116 chassis Mercedes-Benz. It has many broken and missing parts, so is being sold for parts. You can buy them all and sort through what you want, or you can make an offer on just the parts you're interested in.

The front cover is missing the defroster cable bracket which was originally riveted on. It also has a large crack down the center. The boot for the blower motor case was eaten by rabbits and as far as I know, they are no longer available new from Mercedes (though they can be removed and replaced). The upper flaps are not installed. All flaps need new foam. The inside section of the case is glued to the rear section, so in order to remove it to access the inner flaps and evaporator, there has to be some drilling and prying done to separate them (I've never attempted it and don't know how realistic it is to do--the service manual says that if the evaporator or flaps need service, to buy a complete new case because they are not intended to be removed and serviced).

The heater core doesn't seem to leak, but I recommend having it pressure tested and checked for flow before use since it is a very difficult job to remove and replace one. This will not fit a car with automatic climate control as they use a larger heater core. There is a set of upper flaps available, but the tabs were melted on and I don't think the foam can be replaced.

The slider lever that controls the defroster cable is broken. It might be able to be welded, but it's either aluminum or pot metal. The case only has one set of drains. $100 for the lot plus shipping from Surprise, AZ, 85374, USA, or make an offer on some of the parts if you don't want the whole thing.

Here is the second lot. This is a manual climate control assembly removed from a Euro-spec 1980 Mercedes-Benz 280SE. It has many broken and missing parts, so is being sold for parts. You can buy them all and sort through what you want, or you can make an offer on just the parts you're interested in.

The front cover has a crack on the side. The boot for the blower motor case is stiff and cracked at the top, and as far as I know, they are no longer available new from Mercedes (though they can be removed and replaced). The upper flaps are missing but there are a set of 1974 one-piece flaps available. All flaps need new foam. The inside section of the case slides out so the inner flaps and evaporator can be serviced.

The heater core doesn't seem to leak, but is a little rusty and I recommend having it pressure tested and checked for flow before use since it is a very difficult job to remove and replace one. This will not fit a car with automatic climate control as they use a larger heater core. The car wasn't made with air conditioning, but air conditioning was retrofitted at a later date, so the evaporator is not the original style and the side of the case was cut and brackets were screwed in to make it fit.

The left side plastic lever that opens the inner flaps is broken. The case has two sets of drains--one set for the evaporator, and one set for the heater core, should it leak. The lower section of the case that is supposed to have the slider controls is completely missing, as are the clips that hold the case sections together. $60 for the lot plus shipping from Surprise, AZ, 85374, USA, or make an offer on some of the parts if you don't want the whole thing.

This is a used climate control case front support bracket that fits the W116 chassis Mercedes-Benz, however it is an early (1974) version that doesn't have the indentation at the upper left corner, which is something that was added so the ever-thickening wire harnesses could fit between it and the dashboard--so that means that this one doesn't have as much clearance between it and the dashboard as the updated version. It probably has to do with all the extra wires the automatic climate control cars had--so in my guess this is fine for a car with manual climate control. $20 plus shipping from Surprise, AZ, 85374, USA.

This is a used lower flap section of the Mercedes-Benz W116 automatic climate control case removed from a 1980 W116 300SD. The flaps are removed and ready to be refoamed. The vacuum pod will need to be reattached with rivets. $10 plus shipping from Surprise, AZ, 85374, USA.

SOLD! This is a used blower motor assembly that should fit all W116 chassis Mercedes-Benz with automatic climate control. The blower motor works great and I put a couple drops of spout oil on the shaft. The motor will not fit cars with manual climate control unless you cut the end of the cable off of your old blower motor and solder on some bullet terminals so it will plug into this one.

The case is cracked around the motor mounting bolts at the bottom, the rivet up top holding the case halves together was drilled out, the sealing frame for the recirculating air flap was removed, and the recirculating air flap is from a manual climate control case, so if you use this case you will only have 80% instead of 100% recirculating air.

The amplifier is untested. The plastic elbow at the bottom is cracked at the mounting bracket. The rubber hose between the blower motor and case is rotted. In short, the motor works great, but the rest is probably only for parts unless it's better than what you have.

SOLD! $30 plus shipping. I will ship overseas, but it may be very expensive.

The rest of the parts are in untested condition. The linkage is missing a couple springs and the recirculating air flap has been wired to take in only fresh air.

$50 plus shipping. I will ship overseas, but it may be very expensive.

All prices are highly negotiable. In fact, take off 20% or make me an offer.

If there is no interest soon, I'll likely keep a few small parts and will junk the rest.

I still have all this stuff, less the blower motors. Make an offer if interested.

It appears I already sold the lever controls and vacuum switches, and I think I junked the second case that has the aftermarket evaporator.

It's pretty much all sold now except for the big black steel mounting bracket, the lower automatic climate control flap housing, and the early one-piece defroster flaps.
