How do you like the key head otherwise?
Sorry for the late response. Other than the fit problem the key head looks nice and seems to be of good quality. Trying to decide if I want to file down my Huf replacement blank. On one hand I want to use the new key head but I'm also hesitant to take a file to my Mercedes replacement key. I still have one original factory key for my 300D but the rubber head is still in good shape and I'm not breaking it off to use my new billet key head.

The next time I make these key heads, I'll make sure that the correct dimensions are used so this will be a non-issue. At that point, if you'd like to trade yours in for another one with the updated design, I'd be happy to do so.

That said, there is not really any real downside to lightly filing the replacement ke, if you decide to use a cheap Mercedes replacement head at some point in the future, those two ends are not what the two piece head engages with to hold the key in place.

You can PM me if you're wanting to exchange. The next batch of keys will probably come sometime early summer at the rate we are selling through them now.

Having been around stamping dies, I'd file fit the key. As stamping dies wear / material hardness changes so does the size of the stamped part.

Are the new late style key heads corrected to fit the Classic Center keys?

Can you post up a photo of what the Classic Center keys look like under the rubber? I'll tell you for sure that way. I imagine that the Classic Center keys are of the same design as the originals and will fit.

Unfortunately, I already have the plastic head on the key I had made by them and I don’t want to break it off without having a replacement head to go back on the key right away.

I think you may be confusing the late style with the revised early style keys. Late style is what you would find on a W124 with the thicker milled style key. Post a photo of the classic center key in question with the head on, please.

Gotcha. I think I did confuse it. I’m interested in the new early style key head that fixed the fitment issue. Is it $35 shipped?

The revised keys were not made due to a shop error, but the current ones are either a perfect fit or require removing about 0.1 -0.2mm of material from the key blank if the key is on the upper end of the size. It's very minor.

$36 shipped:

A file

Very easy to file the key down a smidge. I’m talking 30 seconds with a file.

Mine are perfect. Classic center early style required just a touch as noted above. W124 was perfect. Original w123 key fit perfectly.

Follow his instructions about not overtorquing the fasteners and filling with Loctite or urethane sealant.

I may have been one of the first to respond, but I am probably one of the last to actually install it.

VERY HAPPY !!!!! A must buy item for the W123 crowd.

I found a key in my glovebox to "Red", and it was to the car but it was broken. The downside was this type of key is the plastic casted head and not the removable type of key. Half of the plastic head was missing.

Being impatient I used the dremel tool and not the file since a perfect fit is a must. I may be off a few 1000th's of an inch, and there is the ever so slightest amount of play, barely noticeable unless you twist and pull the key; however, still virtually no play.

Saved a key and got a super cool key in the process.

If you have the non-removable type of key, you have to shave off the "wings" of the key and square them up. I doubt I invested 15 minutes with the dremel.

I have one of the early billet key heads made by Konrad Wax. Still going strong after about 6-7 years of use. Anytime I have a chance I share my key head with fellow W123 enthusiasts.

We are taking delivery of 200 of the updated keys on monday that will need no dremel or file to fit all known key types, including dealer replacements.

We've also dropped the price to $32 to pass on our savings from making a larger run to you guys. Black only this time.
