FS: W201 or W124 diesel 5 speed manual transmission swap $1750
I have a complete diesel 5 speed swap for either a W201 or W124 diesel, turbo or n/a.
I have pretty much everything for both, W201 or W124 driveshaft Comes with: Transmission 717.412 Driveshaft Shifter Transmission support hydraulic lines pedal set shifter rods flywheel Clutch & pressure plate 130,000 miles $1750 I also have a W124 3.27 rear diff to match the W124 swap for an extra $250. I don't have a W201 diff The trans currently has the flange to match the W124 driveshaft which matches the W124 diff flange I can swap the trans flange back to the 201 flange which I have on hand

What would be needed for this to work in a M104 w124?

Some say the 711.430 is the better stronger gearbox (though to be fair I can not see much of a difference between the 722.412 and the .430 when I've had them in bits). The .430 was used in W124 300Ds and I think perhaps for the 280 six cylinders (probably M103s).
There is a possible problem with the flywheel / clutch combinations for the M104 - around that time they started to use dual flywheels with slightly different gearboxes to suit. I'm not 100% sure - so you need to check with people with a better memory than me - it could be that the dual mass flywheels were purely M104 and the M103's conventional flywheels but there was also a transition period for the M104 where it started out with CIS (like the M103) and ended up with more EFI computery stuff and wasted spark ignition - so it might not be that simple. I'm fairly sure an appropriate question / link to the performance section of the forum will clear things up.

I have the 717412 in my W201 this is why I know the .412 takes a single mass flywheel. To work with your M104 you’ll need a single mass flywheel with 3 timing tabs on the back. Hard to get and expensive.

The manual swap in my 85 190D came from a straight 6 gasser, might have the right flywheel for you. $1250 for the whole car, lol.

I sold this one.
I have a complete M104 5 speed swap from an E280 sportline wagon so its an overdrive not a direct drive top gear. But its complete with the proper M104 flywheel.
