Looking for 1998/99 E300TD Oil Pan
 

Oil Pan needed!

Have a 1998 E300 Turbodiesel (OM606) with busted oil pan (big hole). Not sure if the non turbo from 96-97 would work.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Dig around on e bay a bit. I was able to get a new M104 ( sort of similar to a 606 ) pan for low $ since there isn't much of a market. I'd expect the 606 to be in a similar situation.

Aluminum oil pan I'm thinking. Have you thought about taking the oil pan to have it repaired? A welder shouldn't have a problem doing the work. If the damage is in the area of a mating surface then there'll be a need to get a straight edge and file to true the surface. This takes patience.
I hit a curb during a rain storm in Fort Worth in my 71 Alfa Romeo and the lower and upper oil pan got ruptured. I repaired it with epoxy, file, drill, and tap. Was a fairly large area with a mating surface. Took a couple of attempts but it didn't leak. As they say necessity is the mother of invention.
I know of a 98 e300 in the Aurora Colorado upullandpay yard at the moment. Not sure if the pan is still available but you might see if you can find out. Also not sure if this is true in Aurora but when I was down in Albuquerque there were men there with tools that were available to remove parts. That too could be looked into if a pan isn't readily available.
Just trying to give you a couple of options you might not thought of.
BTW while running with a repaired oil pan you could continue to search for a replacement if it's still an issue. But you'll be back on the road in the meantime.

Thanks for the input — Aurora would be great but it’s still 450 miles away.
It has a quite large hole in the bottom of the pan. Will take it off this weekend and examine it a little closer, but don’t think it will be repairable for the long haul.
Really was hoping to take one off and put the other one on since it will be a real pain to get off in the first place.
Still keeping my fingers crossed that somebody has a bad/worn out engine sitting around and would like to sell the pan off of it.

It would also help your cause / provide a data base for others if you posted a part number.

Have you had a look on the salvage yard searcher car-part.com ? Don't bother e mailing yards as many have not figured out e mail yet.

Yes, I have checked with car-part.com. They seem hesitant to take it off an engine, so jack the price up over new.

I can get the part from MB new for $401, however have a hard time justifying that on a $1000 car.

Ftfy, just buy the pan and then look at what 606t's are selling for on eBay..

If you got a whole car with a 606 for $1000 that's a huge bargain, brother...congrats.

Not that I want to seem like I'm piling on.

I regularly buy majorly broken, 150 K mile, sub $ 500 cars then think nothing of hanging $ 3,500 in parts on this shell. I then have a car that will go another 100 K + with little trouble.

Or I can buy a $ 3,500 car and end up putting $ 3,500 into it over the next 100 K . RE: The only difference between a $ 500 and $ 3,500 is that the $3,500 car is running at the moment and can at any time instantly turn into a $ 500 car.
