WTB: Part for M110 engine
 

Been searching for a decent coolant pipe in any 1970's Mercedes that came with a M110 engine. Bolts to the passenger side of the engine.

If you have a parts car with a M110 engine in it, let me know! It is part # 197/198 in attached diagram.

What chassis car? Year and model?

The car is a 1973 280, but I was told at the classic center that any m110 engine should have this part, so a variety of vehicles may serve as a donor.

That helps. Do you have the part number and/or section of the EPC you are pulling that from?

I can check, but the 1973 280 was a single year car, the only year of the m110 in the pre-facelift w114. I assume you’ve got a sedan, not coupe. Right?

A friend of mine has a few 280slc cars that will get taken apart. He probably has the part if it is truly the same on all m110 cars.

Does this go under or over the exhaust manifold? I'd be tempted just to use regular heater hose and , if the area is exposed to exhaust heat cover in silicone insulating sleeve.

Many better auto parts sell a variety of preformed hoses so it would be possible to get one with a 45 or 90 on one end. If you do go the plastic elbow route, be sure to get ones from a high end maker and don't use barbed cold water elbows from the hardware store as they will soften and distort.

Also, if you aren’t going for the restoration route, it is probably the cabin heater line. So you could just cap both ends it if the goal is to make the car run.

Part # is 1148300615 but won't help because it is no longer available from classic center (already tried).

I am aware that I can fabricate a pipe out of copper or steel, if necessary, but there are enough parts cars out there with this engine that someone (eventually) should have it.

You probably threw a number of folks off by using the term "engine bay"; "engine bay" is generally understood to refer to the chassis, and in particular the sheet metal of that chassis compartment that encloses the engine.
The pipe that you seek is the return flow pipe from the heater to the lower radiator hose, and is attached to the right side of the engine just above the exhaust ports (rather than the "bay").
