For Sale: Manual W116 Climate Control Assembly With A/C Delete
This is a manual climate control assembly removed from a Euro-spec W116 chassis Mercedes-Benz. I removed it many years ago, but I think it came out of a 1975 450SE. This is from a car that was never made with air conditioning, so there is only one dial control and no recirculating air flap in the blower motor case. Most if it is there, but there are some things missing that you'll have to find, such as the heater valve (can be purchased new for $30), and you may have to come up with a piece or two of plastic vacuum tubing and then figure out the wiring.
If you are converting an automatic climate control car to manual, the most challenging part is adapting your wire harness to work. The wire harness for automatic climate control cars is very complex and none of it interchanges with the manual climate control systems. I have included the wires from the blower motor controls to the blower motor, however the wires are cut and the 8-pin plastic connectors are missing (probably still available from Mercedes for a couple dollars). With this system, the only thing that you need to power with electricity is the blower motor. All W116s have a power wire that splits off of the fuse box; one end goes to the climate control, and the other end goes to the blower motor. Then you run some wires from the blower motor switch to the blower motor to control the speeds, plus a ground wire. So, you may be best off leaving the wire harness on the car alone and then just adding the wires you need to make the blower motor switch control the blower motor. I recently converted my 1980 W116 300SD from automatic climate control to manual climate control (with air conditioning). I went all-out and cut the sheathing and electrical tape from my wire harness, removed all the wires relating to the automatic climate control, inserted the wires I needed from a donor car to control the blower motor and the air conditioning, and then taped the harness back up so it was just like if my car came that way from the factory. I couldn't have done it without the wire diagrams in the factory service manual. You'll want to put new foam on the flaps. I put new foam on mine, and used 1/8" extra soft high heat resilient silicone foam from McMaster-Carr so it would last a very long time, however I found that the downside is the foam is too dense and restricts the flaps from closing all the way, so maybe open-cell foam is better, even though it tends to deteriorate with age. This climate control case only has one set of drains, being it's an early version and without air conditioning. The rubber boot for the blower motor is in good condition. When I converted my car to manual climate control, I actually used the automatic climate control case, removed the vacuum pods and filled the holes, added on the defroster cable bracket, and then used the lower half of a manual climate control case which had the sliders on it because the automatic climate control cases have a larger heater core and two sets of drains. What you see is what you get. $250 plus shipping from Surprise, AZ 85374, USA (probably $60 to the west coast and $80 to the east coast), and shipping overseas is probably going to be too expensive unless you're filling a shipping container. I have a couple more manual climate control cases available, but they are incomplete and have some broken parts.
