Wanted '99 E300D Catalytic
so I sold my first '99 turbodiesel to my wife's niece. Its just over 305K and I the one I replaced it with is just over 55K.
OK, story is she managed to put gasoline in the tank it failed to start so she had a shop somewhere in Southern Cal drain the tank and put diesel in it but the damage was done. The cat is rattling like marbles in a tin can. I would put a youtoob together with a sound clip on but its not worth the trouble, trust me its loud! The car still runs great and its a beater but I told her father I could get it fixed - maybe, if I can find a used exhaust or some replacement that isn't a dealer item (think megabucks). So I'd like to find a used one cheap and where it doesn't need to be shipped unless maybe cut off the exh pipe to where I could weld it in here. Throwing this out to see what might be available I've already thought of removing the melted ceramic piece, like they say BTDT on my W124 when it was plugged when I first got the OM603 some 20 years ago. I still have the long (what was it 36inch?) flex drill bit I needed for that job and what a PITA. Needless to say I don't want to repeat that job, besides the 99 has to pass by Smog Police DDH

I believe in California (I may be wrong) that it is illegal to sell a used catalytic convertor. I know that California wrecking yards are prohibited from such a sale.
